Playing DVD+R DL in Blu Ray player
Just bought a Samsung BD E5900 blu-ray player and when I put a burnt Verbatim DVD+R DL in the player it says it isn't compatible, it plays fine in my DVD player and DVD is clean in great shape. Now when I burnt the DVD I book typed it as a DVD-ROM as it was the norm. My manual says the BD E5900 won't play DVD-ROM, is there any way to burn DL disks so my player will accept them, what about DVD-Video format? I use ImgBurn on all my DVD's.
thanks in advance. Last edited by six13; 4th November 2012 at 05:45. |

I just read the specs and it certainly DOES play DVD-ROMs: http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/consume...-E5900/ZK-spec Quote:
What is the content and format of the problematic disc you burned? Last edited by setarip_old; 4th November 2012 at 07:35. |

NTSC model I have, but specs look the same.
http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/tv-video/blu-ray-players/blu-ray-players/BD-E5900/ZC the Samusng manual says it WONT play DVD-ROM/PD/MV, etc the Verbatim DVD+R DL is a mpeg2 movie made with DVD-RB and burnt with ImgBurn bitset to DVD-ROM. This same DVD DL playes fine in my DVD player but Blu ray doesn't accept it. The samsung will play my burnt DVD+R's or -R fine. I haven't tried and DVD+RW's yet. |

The following is from the link YOU have now provided - and it too indicates that your player CAN play burnable DVDs:

Do you go into the Advanced Settings to play with the booktype in ImgBurn?
I've never done that before, all my devices are recent. I've read that manually changing the booktype to DVD-ROM is help with compatibility on older devices. Reset ImgBurn to default settings and create another disc without manually changing the booktype to DVD-ROM. ImgBurn is able to tell if you want to burn a DVD movie disc and ask if you want to adjust settings if necessary. The DVD+R DL should playback fine after that. I've had no problems with +/- media on my BD machine before using just default settings and not playing with any advanced settings. Have you tried updating the firmware to your BD machine?

player is wireless and it did update when I set it up.
i don't use the advanced setting , I click on the little book then make the change. I have fould some Verbatim DVD-R that I burt won't play and others do. Seems to be real random. @setarip_old I know it says it will play the burnable DVD's but in reality it is quite random, some Verbatim -R's play others don't. All my Tayo +R's play and I bitset them all to DVD-ROM |

@Ghitulescu
so when I put a Verbatim DVD+R DL in my burner I don't click on the book type icon, or I do click on the icon but select NORMAL rather than DVD-ROM. My DVD burner is a ASUS and when i click on the book icon I don't see my brand. Previously I had a samsung burner which was one of the brands listed. Whct do I do since my brand isn't listed? thanks |

Let it burn as DVD-Video (default if not setting booktype).

Have you tried hooking your BD machine to the internet and finding out if there's an update?
How do you do the layerbreak? Seamless? Do you get a notification about the chapters being in problematic places? Sometimes you'll have to use something like PGCEdit to add a new chapter within valid sectors for it to be a fully compliant DL disc.

the blu ray has the latest updates as it is wireless and when I set it up it downloaded all the updates and I have gone back and asked it to check for updates. ImgBurn was giving me green stars so the layer break was OK, no errors or messages and I have never selected seamless layer break, I select what ImgBurn determines with the green stars. None of my DL DVD's will play, even some of my Verbatim DVD-R won't play soem some others will. I think I will go with DVD+R version fro DVD5 going forward.
