A list of chat abbreviations for non-english native speakers
As many people visiting this nice forum, english is not my mother tongue. So I think this attached list of chat abbreviations may help you people who still wonder what things like IMHO, AFAIK and ROTFLMAO means, LOL.

I got a nice german/english site for that. It is a search-engine for acronyms and abbrevations.
http://www.chemie.fu-berlin.de/cgi-bin/acronym Have fun.

I think that this abbreviations are used a lot in the english forums I visit and many of my friends that do the same, keep asking me what is this? and that? and I've seen a couple of post here with questions like this, so it must be usefull at some point; though I don't know if it deserves to be made a sticky.

NMA!
I just saw that list and man . I think every little colloquial phrase in the english language has been acronymed on that list. It has been over done. I mean. Here's one for you that you haven't gotten on that list. it's NMA! yeah. can you guess what that one is? well it stands for NO MORE ACRONYMS! I mean it. Acronyms have become over done with. They are becoming grossly gibberish. I could've thrown up and mellow the carpet around me after seeing that "chat abbreviations.txt" profane list of acronyms. ugh! you might as well just take out all the vowels of every word you type and make sense out of that as you read it. blah!
here goes: Se frm rls blw fr mr nfrmtn abt wht cds yu r alwd to ys n yr psts. Now there's your perspicuous sentence with NMA. |

why don't someone just create a program that does a instant translation of the acronym, instead of asking what they just said (or did someone already did that)
Ex: someone is reading a post and is wondering what "wtf" stands for; so they type it into the program and find out it stand for (well, you know what it stands for) |

Stenography. Oh yes how much I miss the sway. or do you all miss it and thats why you want to encourage the habit of acronomizing typed language.
ste·nog·ra·phy (st…-n¼g“r…-f¶) n. Abbr. sten., stenog. 1. The art or process of writing in shorthand. 2. The art or practice of transcribing speech with a stenograph machine. 3. Material transcribed in shorthand. --sten”o·graph“ic (stµn”…-gr²f“¹k) or sten”o·graph“i·cal (-¹-k…l) adj. --sten”o·graph“i·cal·ly adv. |

Acaila - IIRC, shortcut IMHO is always being translated/decrypted as In My HUMBLE Opinion... Even years ago i asked goy, what the hell was that shortcuts
I think that humble also more fits the reason, and usage of this shortcut. As people over net always trying to write his expressions honestly, but we are using IMHO into cases, where we have disagree with other opinion, and we have to do this politely. So, its not like sayin - you are f*cking wrong, you as*hole, and im right. Its like politely pointing that my opinion and / or experience slightly difers from the presented one ...but i can be wrong. After all, im from Czech and not US or UK |
