Good 1080p video-source for encoding-tests?
Hi, I wonder, where can I find a good 1080p video-source for doing encoding-tests?
"Benwaggoner HEVC encoding challenge" linked video-sources to test encoders, but those video-sources are quite big and are not video-clips of totally different contents, SolLevante_SDRv2_1080p24_8bit.y4m is only 2D-animated content. But if there are no better alternatives than them, then I'll use them. Also, what are the main things to watch for when doing video-encoder-comparisons? The things to look for that I can think of now are: general video-quality, quality dark scenes, low banding, low blocking, low aliasing, not all (non-noise)grain lost, picture-quality of hair. Should I encode at the same bitrate that I plan to encode my real encodes (which is quite high bitrate, normally around CRF 18), or is it OK to use a lower bitrate to easier distinguish the video-quality of the encodes? Thanks. Last edited by Forteen88; 9th December 2022 at 13:36. |

If nobody else drops by, then here, Consolidated list of test video clip resources [Sticky in avisynth usage forum]
https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=135034 EDIT: In this thread here [1st post]:- https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=176702 FranceBB posted a Sky advert sample clip (Source.mxf) which is no longer available (~300MB, 40secs) Perhaps he could be persuaded to upload it again (he likes it if you call him 'Sir'). [You might also wanna say that MediaFire links don't expire, and don't tell him I sent you, he dont like me]

I wish, but I don't own land, so I can't be called Sir
I also haven't finished my PhD yet, so I can't be called "Doctor" either. Best I can do is "engineer", I guess ehehehehehehe By the way, I used to have free high quality public samples for users to test, but I lost them and the ones I kept I can't share for rights-realted reason... |

ASC StEM2 - Standard Evaluation Material 2 (https://dpel.aswf.io/asc-stem2/ ) might be interesting.
