Auto Gordian Knot: EXCEPTION: Open avi failed.
Hallo!!!
I've tried to use autogk to encoding a dvd into divx/xvid, but I always have the same error. Here is the end of the log file. Code:

I've tried to use some different versions of autogk (from 1.0 to 1.22), but always with the same problem. The fact is that, using other softwares (for example xmpeg5 or gordian knot 0.28) I finish the job without problems. Can you help me? What is the problem? what can I do to solve it? Thanks!!! |

Tough one. Can you properly play *name*_comptest.avi from gk_tmp directory in WMP?
It looks to me like your windows cannot properly open avi files (may be because you're using ffdshow or something)...

The information you ask me are these?
Video Path: (S) --> AVI Splitter --> XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder --> (R) Video Src Type: 4cc: DX50 Details: DirectShow claims to be able to play the file. The following combination of filters were used: {C:\******\VIDEO_TS\gk_tmp\****_comptest.avi} (Video Source) {AVI Splitter} (Video Pre-processor) {XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder} (Video Decoder) {Video Renderer} (Video Renderer) |

which XviD version are you using (you might wanna try latest final 1.0)? I have no idea why this is a problem though.
(you can also try installing xvid without support for other 4cc and then doing DivX test so that it gets decoded by divx filter - this might eliminate case when your xvid DShow filter is at fault).

try as suggest by you:
- before i used codec XviD 1.0.0 RC4 - uninstall xvid codec 1.0.0 rc4 - install xvid 1.0.0 final (without support for other 4cc) with new version of autogk 1.24b - run autogk with divx but always the same problem. is it possible that i do something wrong during the 4 step of configuring autogk? p.s.: the preview runs correctly |

Let me tell you what's the error is all about.
After comp test AutoGK tries to open AVI via windows avifil32.dll to get the resolution of it and hence AR to get resize step correctly. Since it fails to do so this means: - either file cannot be opened via that dll due to codec/filter problem - file is still in use (unlikely but its worth checking if you can delete or copy that file straight after error occured) I have no idea what can cause that and without having this problem on the PC where I can run debugger its kinda impossible to solve.

The same thing happened to me after installing an application that deleted all of the registry settings under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\avifile\Compressors, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\avifile\Extensions, and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\avifile\RIFFHandlers.
Simply checking for and adding (if missing) the following registry keys fixed it for me (valid for XP SP1): [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AVIfile\Compressors\auds] @="{0002000F-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AVIfile\Compressors\vids] @="{00020001-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AVIfile\Extensions\AU] @="{00020003-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AVIfile\Extensions\AVI] @="{00020000-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AVIfile\Extensions\WAV] @="{00020003-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AVIfile\RIFFHandlers\AVI] @="{00020000-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AVIfile\RIFFHandlers\WAVE] @="{00020003-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" |

Check the registry settings. I find all the registry keys you indicate, except these:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AVIfile\Extensions\AVI] @="{00020000-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" was missing. Add a new one. Here i find another one: "{894288e0-0948-11d2-8109-004845000eb5}": is this to delete or to leave? [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AVIfile\RIFFHandlers\AVI] @="{00020000-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" was missing. Add a new one. Here i find another one: "{894288e0-0948-11d2-8109-004845000eb5}": is this to delete or to leave? thanks for all! |
