qual_Prec and CCE2.5

After reading quite a few posts about changing the advanced settings in RB for CCE.
Im wondering if someone could clear up somthing.
By default the settings are VBR 25 Qp 16 , now Im quessing that these settings have been chosen to give the optimum results over a wide range of DVDs.
BUT for which version of CCE, as the QP setting is on different scales 0-64 for later versions 0-100 for 2.50.
I use CCE 2.5 so should it be left at 16 or increased to 25 (working on the principle that 16 is 25% of 64 therefore 25 = 25% of 100)

Quality_prec
Also known as Image quality Priority in CCE 2.5 and Quantizer characteristics in CCE 2.66 +. This setting ranges from 0-64, but is scaled for CCE 2.5 which uses a 0-100 scale.
This setting controls whether CCE gives priority to the fine details of the image, or evenly colored flat areas. A low setting will give priority to details, but could result in blockiness or color banding. A high setting will favor flat areas, but could result in edge artifacts.

So you don't have to worry about converting it for 2.5.

I find the default setting is good for most movies. Of course it depends on the type of video, the bitrate, and who's watching it. If your bitrate is high enough you shouldn't have to worry about it. When it get's too low for a perticular source it really becomes a choice of which type of artifact do you hate most: mostquito noise or blocking/banding? Before it get's to that point I usually try light filtering though.

My concern was if this setting was for another version of CCE, the fiqure used would have been too high or too low for 2.5.

I had read quite a bit, but at times you get a lot of conflicting ideas and most dont give the version they use, and I end up more confused than when I start!

Just a quick question, what would you say to be a "good" bitrate. From which value would you say that the bitrate is good enough to not have to put filter or change settings?

I usually start thinking about using filters around 3000kbps or less. I usually let DVD-RB encode the first couple of segments and then look at the .m2v files to check the quality. If it's not acceptable I'll start playing around with filters and settings.

There's some things I don't have clear enough, if you watch the .avs generated by Dvd-Rb you are watching segments without the CCE compression, what I mean is that you can't notice mosquito noise or edge artifacts because those .avs or .m2v are uncompresed, what you can notice are the combing artifacts if you are not using the decomb.dll filter to preview them. So why all you people say that watch those segments and after that apply filters if think they are necessary. I never used them, I only rise a little the CCE internal filters to decrease the mosquito noise with optimal results IMHO.
Ah, how do you set the undot() and deen() filters I was thinking to give them a try.

The .avs files are not encoded, they are the source that will be fed to CCE for encoding. You should still check them out when playing around with AVS filters to see what effect the filters are having on the input.

.m2v files are the encoded output, so you can look at them to see how the encode went.

According to RB's "CCE FAQ (Updated)" sticky in the CCE section, he recommends a Quality_prec of 25-30 if the bit rate is over 3000 kbps.
