"ignore" should prohibit the ignored from posting in my threads

Certain people like to clog other people's threads with off-topic spam/flaming, and I think people should have the option of keeping their own threads clean of such nonsense.

That's what moderators are for.
They can intervene if things get out of hand.

But preventing people from posting is just counter-intuitive in a community-driven... community.

If they're on ignore, you only have to see their post if someone quotes their post, iirc.

Surely, you will not die if you are inadvertently exposed to their post.

Yeah, but:

1) Reporting all of the spam can tire a person's click-finger after a while

2) The spam is allowed to stink up threads until a moderator intervenes

3) Sometimes, the moderators just don't bother removing the spam at all

4) The mods have better things to do than put out the fires that certain people [REDACTED] keep trying to start

That would require either a re-write of the forumware (vBulletin) itself, OR the creation of a plugin /add-on for the feature.

IDEALLY, the posts from the "ignored" ones should not be listed at all in the pages displayed to the "ignorer". This is the way killfiles work on Usenet. Sadly the IgnoreLists have never been a perfect "translation" of Usenet's killfile. The 'BlockLists' from/for the anti-social networks are much worse, their inventors have done it all wrong.

If you do not like these rules, I am sure you'll be happy to set up your own forum, where you can set up your own rules.

You agreed to these rules.

The ignore function is nothing but a method of sticking your head in the sand. Nobody is spamming your threads despite what your psychological condition has you believing.

In fact you accused everyone who continued posting in one of your threads of spamming recently simply because you decided you no longer wanted to discuss the subject, only to later decide the continued discussion resulted in a solution to your problem. Yet here you are, once again re-writing reality while pretending that wasn't another example of your ability to be wrong about almost everything.

I have closed this thread as it is turning into personal attacks. Way more heat than light being shed.

This isn't the place to rehash old drama. The suggestion's been made, if any admin wants to consider it they will. I wouldn't get your hopes up, this is pretty close to stock 3.x vBB and custom coding isn't going to happen.

(Whoops, didn't notice it was already closed anyway! Thanks ben!)
