Newbie questions about VobSub SubResync

Hey guys, I've been reading these forums on and off for a while, but this is my first post. I have a few [newbie] questions about SubResync. I tried to figure all of this out, but have so far failed, and I couldn't find any documentation or forums which explained this. If anyone can answer these questions and/or direct me to another site/thread where they have already been answered, I would very much appreciate it.

1) I notice that if I edit the value of the "Time" field for some subtitle, then save, it changes the times of all subtitles after it so that the time between subtitles stays the same. This is great for syncing movies when the subs are delayed, but what if all subtitles are synchronized except for one? How do I change the time of one without changing the rest?

2) Each of the subtitles in the video I have seem to display for the correct duration. However, when I load them up in SubResync, it shows the exact same time (milliseconds and all) for all four time fields (in order: Time, End, Preview, End) for every subtitle. When I edit the subtitles and then save and play the video with the new subtitles, the times are still correct. What is going on here? How can I get VobSub to show me the durations of the subtitles?

3) If I right-click on a particular subtitle, then the icon next to it changes from the empty white circle to a green one. If I then right-click on the icon, it cycles between the green circle, a red down arrow, and a red up arrow. What do all of these mean?

4) What do the "Preview" and corresponding "End" fields mean? What is meant by a "preview" of a subtitle, as opposed to the "time" of that subtitle?

Hi!

The following is the documentation for the "Subresync" portion of the VOBSub package. I believe careful reading will provide you with the answers to your questions about its use:

Usage: 
- "Open..." something to fix.
- Set the frame-rate if the format needs it (mainly for microdvd's format). This fps will be used for the savings too.
- Find the same line in the movie and the subtitle file somewhere at the beginning and at the end. Just run any player and listen carefuly :)
- Adjust the time code to the right value in the first column for both - it's just like renaming in explorer - and notice how the second column changes at the same time. To cancel or reactivate your changes press the right mouse button.
- Select nothing to save everything, or select something to save a part of it. 
- "Save As...". Choose one of the two formats. (They are the first two listed in "supported formats.txt")
v1.03+ update:
- You can open/save vobsub files also. Since there is no user-interface for multiple languages, you can only edit the currently active.
v2.09+ update:
- More output formats, now you can save to srt, sub, smi, ssa.
- You can also save vobsub subtitles into a text format (the same semi-ocr stuff can be found in subrip). It is possible to use the same database of recognised characters in a series of conversion, but you can't save it for the next execution of subresync.exe. To clear the db without restarting subresync check the "Clear..." checkbox in the save as... dialog.
- Control over character sets during conversion between 8- and 16-bit text formats. (single/multi byte <-> unicode) (win2k/xp+ only)
v2.10 update:
- Two new waypoint types. You have to right click the green circle image next to the timestamps to cycle between them. The pointing direction means that the entries behind are unaffected by the changes.
v2.15 update:
- You can save the recognised characters into a file and reload them for editing or OCRing later.
- The OCRing process can be fully automatized if you put ocrdll.dll and Dlltwain.dll (and optionally ENGLISH.WDC) from SimpleOCR's install directory next to subresync. SimpleOCR is not redistributable but fortunately freely downloadable at http://www.simpleocr.com.

Remarks: 

Set one "waypoint" to correct a constant offset error, set two for a simple fps modification, or set three+ for complex problems. Since the program interpolates between them, it is obvious, that the more you set the more accurate it gets.

There is no need to restart the player after every adjustments, dvobsub will reload the subtitles when it detects changes. (remember to always keep a backup copy of the original subtitles)

I'll have to make a few tries with the 'waypoint' option because I am still not 100% sure how to use it but at least, now I know what is it for.

However, I still wonder what is the 'unlink' option for. And if there's a difference when the green circle is or isn't in front of the timestamp.

If I remember correctly with Unlink checked you can change individual subs without affecting others.

hope you are still going strong and willing to explaing how this can be done:
I would like to reuse the "recoginzed image->letter(s) database" in a later session.
Is this possible? How?

This, from #4, gives some hope, but I am not able to get it working.

v2.15 update:

I use subresync.exe from VobSub 2.23. Its size is 96 KB.
I also tried the repacked executable subresync.exe with size 156 KB (from vobsub223fix) which should work
with IE8 installed. I have IE9 installed, though.

I find no way to save the recognised characters into a file and reload them for editing or OCRing later. How can this be done?
