svhs deck

does anybody know of some good svhs decks brands or places to get them? basically the cheapest price for the best svhs deck that i can get, as i'm just looking whether its worth it to rip vhs,thx

If you want to buy new, then the JVC 9000 series is what you want. It has a Time Base Corrector, video stabilizer, 3d comb, and many other features. The down side is $499.95 US, but it is worth it.

Also do a search on E-Bay. I bought a JVC broadcast professional deck for $157.00 US, and with shipping it came to $185.00. I thought I had a deal of a lifetime until two weeks later the same deck sold for $75.00.

I am still very happy with the purchase, and would do it all over again. You will have the added expensive of the special S-video cables and Canon Audio cables for after all the PROs don't use RCA or consumer connectors.

This deck will playback tapes with better conrol of tracking. You will have more detail, and less chroma noise.

Stay away from the below $200.00 specials, you won't be happy.

I intend to buy a S-VHS JVC too. I see two different models on ebay.com :

- JVC HR-S3800U /3911U SVHS HiFi STEREO VCR W/W for $100
- JVC HR-S3902U SVHS 4-Head Hi-Fi Stereo VCR Plus - Black for $130.

I would like to know wich one is the newer model and has best specs. Thx.

The JVC 3000 series is their entry level deck. I had one for trial, and it had high video and chroma noise. There is another series, I can't remember the series number, and it was selling around $329.00.

I have a 9900 unit with sells for $499.00, but you may find a 7700 or 8800 used, and those are good decks. There nothing on the market like these decks. TBC,DNR,and can be played back 7X with sound forwards or backwards.

My pro-model is a JVC BRS-611, which I bought for $153.00 plus shipping and pro cables. The step up from that is the BR-S811 with has DNR and a better drop out compensation circuit and tracking on older tapes is perfect. There are some on E-bay now with a high bid of $60.00

If you need PAL, there are some dual NTSC/PAL units.

If you want to keep under $200.00 new, take a look at the Mitsubishi
machings.
