PotPlayer will pipe to Avisynth automatically under the hood, thus avoiding indexing.

Thanks for the tip. Currently I'm exploring the same kind of thing with MPC-HC using
CrendKing's Avisynth filter. As far as I can tell it inserts Avisynth between LAV decoders and the renderer, so no indexing required either, but I'm having a couple of dealbreaking issues with it (see Issues tab in the Git).
