So you're allowed to choose the right HEVC encoder... I can only guess the same is true for AV1 then. Which AV1 encoder did you use for the subjective evaluations?

Don't mix up libaom, the PSNR-optimized reference encoder, and AV1, the standard - especially when using something else than PSNR as your output. People did this for libvpx also, and that unfairly puts the standard in a bad spotlight.
