The projects should probably be remerged, I know there was probably some disagreement etc at the time but considering the situation now it makes sense to recombine the effort. As a far as UI is concerned, there a a couple of toolbar plugin designs which should be part of the actual player, for example
toolbar_ZoNi_Farm-Fresh which looks great on the black MPC-BE.
