I did get the 720 x 576 AR 16:9 going.........
As I thought it was the original Xvid codec I was using that mixed up the displaying of the picture correctly
I have tried two media players the first is a HDD player approx 3 years old, and did not play the AR-16:9 at 16:9, and crashed when I tried playing the file patched to DAR 4:3. the rest it played fine at I presume square pixel.
The second is a USB drive player that playes AVIs, that I got this year.
This played all the files at correct aspect, though it did produce flashes of horizontal banding, ( I'm sure theres a name for this )
