Of course, now it becomes clear to me:
Refresh can only come with the next subpicture, and that timing has nothing to do with the next GOP.
As I switch sub streams any rendering can only start after the arrival, buffering and decoding of the next subpicture,
there could not have been anything already buffered from that stream I intended to switch to.
so: Nothing to display for the duration of the recent subpicture I switched into,
and that is to be expected for any animation of already buffered/unbuffered content too of course...
