MPC homecine choppy video

I have a old crappy pc that has trouble playing HD (wmv) vids on my PC. Basically the video & audio are choppy. Is there anyway I can set mpc or ffdshow to dial down the processing of the video so its not choppy. I don't mind if the video quality is degraded, I just don't wanna have to re-encode the vids or buy a video card to watch them. So far I've went into ffdshow to adjust set to skip deblocking at 350ms & set drop framedelay to 1000. The video is near smooth but the audio is still very choppy. Any help or suggestions are very appreciated.
