After studying this thread cedocida seems to be the best option.

To swiego:
The differences are significant. At least to a fairly experienced video encoder. For the casual observer they are probably only minor and in fact the added sharpness of some decoders only makes the stuff look better to them :P Chroma bugs can be noticeable on some material while on other they can be difficult to observe [under normal playback that is].
