Hello,
I hope my message will be clear enough as english is not my native language.
I have created my DVD with Pinnacle Studio 9 authoring software, which has a bug : you can create the 16:9 menu, but the IFO and VOB files contain 4:3 information on the menu part and the aspect of the menu on TV remains 4:3.
On a 16:9 television, everything looks fine, menu and movie. On a 4:3 TV, the menu displays fullscreen (4:3) and the movie 16:9.
So I have modified the IFO files (with IfoEdit) to have the 16:9 automatic letterbox aspect and changed a VOB video attributes (with VobEdit) to have the right aspect. Everything is perfect bacground and buttons, EXCEPT the highlighted buttons, they still display on a 4:3 aspect. I also tried MenuEdit, but no success.
How can I change this information, with which tool and what to change ?
(I am not an expert)
Thank and regards

it is not 5 days to post your message.. its 5 days to register. its to give people a chance to search the board to find the answer on your own. shorter wait times would just cause people to mostly wait it out without searching the board. now maybe your case you have already researched this, but you could have registered and watched. then when you had a question you would have no wait time.
as per your question.. id say zeul or mpucoder (and others) would be able to help

If your menu looks ok on a 16:9 tv and looks ok on a 4:3 tv in fullscreen, then your DVD works in the same way as most of the hollywood movie DVDs. This is called "pan&scan" mode and is absolutely correct.
Only changing the aspect ratio to 16:9 with VobEdit is not enough. You probably have changed the display mode to "automatic letterbox" too. So the background will be displayed in 16:9 as you have expected. But for letterbox you need a different highlight subpicture. This is missing in your VOB.
I'm shure you can change the setting of Pinnacle Studio 9 to "letterbox" if you choose to make a widescreen menu. Then run your DVD project again.
Or you can play around with this mini-guide: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=99306
Here you will find information how to change your 4:3 highlight picture to a letterbox highlight picture.
But you have to be a little experienced.

You will have to change the menu highlights. Not very simple. IMHO, it is simpler to restart your work with Pinnacle from the beginning. It should have an option to display the 16:9 menu as letterboxed.
If you want to try to edit your highlights, see here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=708394#post708394).
[EDIT:] Hi goonix! You typed faster than me!

Hello and thank your guys for your help.
The initial bug comes from the authoring software, it is not my mistake, Pinnacle is unable to treat 16:9 menus properly.
So I checked the values here :

And then I changed the parameters A to B:

And the highlights simply disapeared. The buttons were there, navigation worked fine but you need to guess where the cursor is, which button is active. I tried to change the color pattern of the buttons, no change.
So I changed the values B back to A to get my initial problem :

The problem here is that the selected button (yellow) is on a full screen format.
Any advise ?
Thanks and regards

We understand your problem. As explained above, it is not sufficient to change the streams attributes. You have also to edit the subpic stream to align it properly with your background. It's axplained in the guide by goonix. See the link above (PART 2: HOW TO EDIT A 16:9 MENU).
In your case, it should be sufficient to resize the subpic bitmaps.
[EDIT:] Another suggestion: use an authoring program that can generate a letterboxed menu. I suggest DVD-Lab Pro. It is excellent, but a little bit expensive.
And yet another suggestion: reauthor your menu for Pan&Scan.
