Hi all,

I have a VIDEO_TS folder on my hard drive. I usually burn these using DVD Shrink to make an iso file, then burn that through Nero. I've read that I can burn directly through Nero, but the only option that seems to work is "Recode DVD Video", and I don't understand why Nero insists on recoding if the VIDEO_TS folder will fit on a dvd. If I try to burn the VIDEO_TS folder as data, Nero warns me that it won't play in a stand-alone dvd player.

Anyway, I have this particular VIDEO_TS folder that is 4.31 GB, but whether I make an iso through DVD Shrink (with compression off for all content - just to turn it into an iso) or through Nero and burn to iso, the iso is only 3.65 GB. Can anyone tell me why that is? And does this mean that I am losing quality, even though what I want is simply to burn the VIDEO_TS folder without further compression?

Thanks in advance!

No - the proper way is to use NERO Burning ROM (NOT Recode) in"DVD-Video" mode - and place all DVD files (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs) into NERO's RED "VIDEO_TS" folder...

Ah! Got it... thanks, mate!

Why does it make a difference how they are burnt? I mean, if the files are burnt on the disk either way, then what's the difference which Nero mode I use to burn? Do you know, I'm just curious.

what's the difference which Nero mode I use to burn?

The different modes/formats are provided within NERO to serve different, specific purposes.

Without getting into the "invisible" (transparent to user) differences , the most obvious example is the requirement for a video DVD to have ALL pertinent files (.IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs) and nothing else placed in a folder named "VIDEO_TS" - as opposed to a Data DVD, for which you can place any kind of file anywhere you please...
