I am planning on purchasing a small pack of the recommended media by the BenQ support phone line R+ Sony, TDK, Imation or Maxell however this will be the first time that I go through the process with the long DVD format.
I have an External BenQ burner 1621 (16X) and I wondered if I use the same process as I do with the 4.7 GB media?
I plan on converting an analog 180 minute vhs tape to dvd and thought that the longer more expensive disc would likely accomodate the vhs better.
I will be using the program that came with the Hauppauge PVR USB2 and that is the Movie Factory 3 which I have been very pleased with to date.
But as a Noob, I don't know if there are additional processes that I have to follow with these longer media discs.
I always burn in DVD ROM and have the exe. that BenQ emailed me and make certain that my firmware is uptodate.
I would appreciate experienced comments, lest I get myself in over my head.
Thanking you in advance. Cheers
And by the way are there any oddities with these longer discs in terms of playing with standalone players as I have had no problems with any of my 4.7 GB backups in the 5 standalone players that we have in our family which range from the kids door crasher no name players, to toshiba, panasonic and some high end home theatre models.
Regards again!!! And I should add that your experienced minds are greatly appreciated!!!

Your question isn't about analog capture, its about the use of burning software and D/L media.

Moving to Burning forum.

Sorry if I posted in the incorrect place. What I want to know is since with the Movie Factory 3 program that I use when converting analog to digital is there anything different in using the longer D/L discs since I am now in an MPEG process and not Video TS, which I am in when I do backup dvd's???
I wanted to know if there is any other process that has to be done in conjunction with this?
I know that there is a difference between Video TS which is the end result when I use DVD Shrink or Clone DVD and I wanted to know what the difference would be with the longer DVD and MPEG.
I read somewhere about breaking a layer and did not understand what that was all about in relation to these longer Media discs.
I would appreciate comments.
Thankyou

If you have Ulead MovieFactory 3, make sure you update it with the DL patch. This will allow you to create dual layer dvd projects.
http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf_ftp_dmf3.htm

Since MovieFactory is a "newbie" program it will automatically set the layer break.

Verbatim DVD+R DL discs are considered to be the only reliable dual layer DVD blanks currently available.

Thankyou for the reply regarding my query for D/L dvd burning and Movie Factory 3 SE, the OEM that came with my Haupauuge Win TV PVR USB 2.0.

First, regarding media i checked with BenQ phone support and for my 162I External burner they support Fuji and had not done testing on the Verbatim which I advised them that was recommended in several forums.
They reinforced that they had not checked it out, and actually up here for a small pack of DL's the fuji and verbatim work out to the same price per disc, $5.

As far as Movie Factory 3.0 SE is concerned, I gather that I should uninstall the OEM that I have installed on my notebook via a 2.0 USB PCMCIA card and then I will do a Reg Supreme clean and then install via the Link that was posted to D/L the Win TV-PVR USB Devices Update for the Movie Factory 3.0 SE for DL's that is in 2 packages???

I thought that I should post this query before I go ahead and do this and mess up.
As I see the other was a D/L for a PCI connection.

I assume that once I do this update that I will then be able to give it a try at doing a 180 minute VHS tape conversion from analog to dvd in the same way that I did my 60 minute 4.7 gig dvd conversions that turned out very well. However this time i will be a little apprehensive as the tape is 180 minutes and not 60 minutes like my last project.
Am I correct that I simply follow the same process??? i simply want a clone of the VHS tape with a title. I did not get to put a title on the last one however i gather that I have to double click on the title window in order to be able to type the Title in.

Please correct me if I am making incorrect assumptions here.
I really appreciate the expreienced comments in this forum, as everyone gives a reply that is reasonable for a Noob like me to understand.

I look forward to responses.

Thankyou for your time.
Cheers!

So to review, you have a 3 hour VHS tape that you want to create a dual layer DVD. You have the software Movie Factory 3 SE and a dual layer dvd burner.

I did not know that you had the SE version when I suggested the updates, I assumed it was the retail version. Try to apply the patches and see if it will work. The worst thing that will happen is that you will get an error saying that you can't update. Do not uninstall the program to apply the patches. The patches need the program to be installed.

If that does not work, you can download the trial version of Ulead MovieFactory 4. This version supports DL discs. You can use the trial version unlimited for 30 days. That should be more than enough time to convert your VHS tape. If you like version 4 and want to do future DL discs that you might consider buying it.

Did you try to see if the 3 hour VHS tape can fit on a single layer disc? The quality will not be as good but it may be acceptable since its a VHS source. Version 3 does single layer projects.

I still think that Verbatim DVD+R DL discs are the best.
