View Full Version : DVD into VDubMod for easy editing?

I'm not completely new to all this...but I've always had trouble with this particular thing. Obviously, it's been easy for me with GKnot to make backups of my DVDs (divx). This particular DVD, though, has a lot of stuff I need to edit out of it. I'm also going to be making smaller clips from it as well. I can do this perfectly fine with my TV captures, but when I rip DVD (dvddecrypter) I cannot open it directly in VDubMod for some reason. I always get some sort of error along the way and it just doesn't go smoothly.

What do I need to do in order to be able to open my rips in VDubMod so that I can edit them the same way I do my TV captures?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Can you, perhaps, be specific?

Would you please also state which version of DVD Decrypter you are using and in what mode?

You may have better luck editing the video first with an application such as Cuttermaran. It's quite easy to use and does not re-render so it's very fast and there's no loss of quality.

Well, for starters...how do I get the entire set of VOBs into VDub? I can't append to them and automatic finding of segments isn't grabbing them all.

I think the errors I usually get are audio errors. If I remember correctly it would work if I just left the audio alone but if I try and go to MP3 it causes errors. I'll go ahead and play with it and post the actual errors. I was gonna wait to do anything until I got some suggestions for the best method.

Ok, well, I just ran a little test and all went well. LOL.

I do need to figure out how to get all of them opened in there at once though so I can edit it as one big clip. I'm trying to take 2 DVDs that are ripped (about 9 .VOBs total) and encode them to fit on a single DVD+R disc. It's a little tougher to figure out what to put in the bitrate calculator for that many peices.

Thanks!

I know it's hard to believe, but VirtualDubMod cannot open more than one VOB at a time. That leaves you at least three options:

1. Rip it as a single VOB.

2. Do a binary concatenation of your VOBs into one VOB using DOS COPY.

3. Use DGMPGDec, which is capable of loading more than one VOB.

Since angelleye is planning to concatenate two different DVDs, I think there should be some concern over audio timing at the breakpoint between the two DVDs. VOBEdit's "Join Clip" command can be used to concatenate dual-disc sets, and make a single VOB set out of them.

Perhaps the simplest way would be to use (freeware) DVD Shrink in "Re-author" mode...

I'm encoding to Divx. DVD Shrink won't do Divx..as far as I know. Never used any other these other suggested apps...I'll have to check em out.

Any other suggestions would be cool too. Thanks!

1. Rip it as a single VOB.

I never even realized this was an option. This looks like it'll work just fine. Thanks!
