I have a couple of PAL DVD's, which I want to convert to NTSC. I have no problem converting the main footage to NTSC, but I never figured out a way how I could convert a PAL menu to an NTSC menu. I tried nuMenu4u without any luck and also tried several other steps which didnt come out right at all.

What I'm asking is a simple way to convert a menu (with sub pictures and animated background), if it's to be a complex way, then to explain in a step by step matter.

Basically just want to convert size and layout I'd imagine. There are a few threads on extracting & then modifying/replacing menus, buttons, etc in the different forum sections, including DVD Authoring section. There's more then one way to do it, and don't know which method you'd be most comfortable with -- best to just browse through them or search.

I already browsed the forums a lot for a menu conversion, and I tried most of them without any success. What I want is a well explained, step by step way to do it, it can be a complicated one, but as long as it is well explained.

Apologies if I misunderstand...

There really isn't any big difference that I'm aware of in PAL vs. NTSC menues, but of course I could be wrong never having had a PAL DVD to play with. :)

The animated background would just be a m2v file, to be converted like the video. Subpictures could I think be extracted, position changed, and put back, but unfortunately that involved an ifo manipulation is beyond me - I'd just be quoting one of the guides or threads myself. :)

Reauthoring the DVD (or complete menu) it would be a question of the capabilities of authoring software, the complexity of the original, and how much you're willing to compromise. :) There are some pro effects with hi-lites that are difficult to duplicate, but if all you want is the converted background and closely matching buttons with a simpler highlight one of the mediachance apps should work nicely. Sorry can't help more.

Numenu4u can do a pal->NTSc or NTSC -> PAL conversion AFAIK.

I was able to make a PAL to NTSC conversion of a menu with numenu4u, now my question is, how can I link up the buttons of the newly converted menu, into the reauthored movie?

well if you used scenerist to recreate the menus you could have used that. But afterwards you can use things like menuedit, dvdremake etc.
