I backed up a dvd the other day and when I replayed it, it didn`t seem to be in dolby digital( the multi channel decoder on my sony amp did not come on)
What am I missing or what am I supposed to do. Sorry if this is a lame question but I read a few other posts and couldn`t make much sense of what was going on.

All help is greatly appreciated

Some further infos are needed:

- Channel count of your ac3 source ?
- used Recoding workflow (ffmpeg via CLI, BeSweet, Softencode) ?

I`m not quite sure what all that means, I`m using dvd shrink.
The channel count I think you mean my amp is 5.1 and I have 5.1 on my puter too. Anything else I can try and answer. What is besweet that I keep reading about.

DVDShrink just muxes back the original audio, so what audio track did you choose out of the original ones on the DVD? Sometimes there are several AC3 in diff. Channel counts one one DVD for the same language available. Like Eng AC3 5.1 and Eng AC3 2.0. So maybe you where mistaken when choosing the right one? Just assuming.

I officially have no idea what I`m doing, I have tried reading different FAQ`s and all I do is confuse myself more.why is it so hard to playback a dvd in ac3 when the original is in AC3 does it just do a exact copy????

You talked about using DVDShrink.
If you did exclude AC3 Channels you dont need, then maybe you also have to set in Shrink "which" AudioTrack should be used as default when starting the DVD Backup.
Im not shure, jst assuming ... maybe you did exclude exactly the one AC3 track which will be played back as default and as you did exclude it, now the Start-Pointer points to a "no more existing" stream.

I haven't experienced it myself, but have read here of prob. with the way the audio streams are referenced in the original DVD IFO files. If you have all tracks you should be able to switch to 5.1 eng I think on your SAP -- that would tell you it's just getting switched around, and might be usable as is? Or the track may not be copied to new folder by Shrink. If I remember correctly to get around it one way was to select the stream you wanted when ripping, so that's something you could try.

Could also try selecting just the 5.1 eng stream in Shrink, unchecking all others, &/or checking or un-checking the box for remapping enabled streams under preferences -> output files.

will look into it but i have tried the only checking 5.1 and it didn`t do anything different.
I`m soooo confused
