I'm new to Gordian Knot and XVID encoding.

When chosing the resolution after compressibility check, would 640x272 with 80 % load give same quality in full screen as 704x304 with 70 % load. I know it can never be identical but I'm asking for sometimes I get less Aspect Error in lower resolutons.

Is it better to chose the lower resolution with lower aspect error and higher load or higher resolution with higher aspect error and smaller load?

Thanks in advance.

Hi-

You'll probably get differing opinions about that. Me, I don't mind cutting a few pixels into the video in order to lower the Aspect Error. A lot of people (maybe you) don't like to do that, though. One thing I sometimes do is to change the Width to Mod 16 from Mod 32. If for example, 640x272 gives you a 2% Aspect Error, as it often does, you may find that 656x272 is pretty good.

In the example you gave, 70% is also pretty high, and if those were my only 2 choices, I'd go for 704x304.

Thanks for your reply.

Actually the difference between Aspect Error was only 0.5 between the two resolutions. Usually I do my best to keep the Aspect Error less than 0.5.
What is an aceptable Aspect Error according to best practices guide?

Thanks

Is there a link to this best practices guide? :) I also keep mine at or below 0.5%
