I get that error while trying to recode an AVI file using AutoGK 2.16.
The OS running on the machine is WinXP Pro "stripped to the bone edition". The AVI is Xvid. I have WMP10 installed. Is there some component the OS is missing that will not allow VirtualDub/AutoGK to reencode this file or is it a different problem? The file was originally two separate AVIs which I combined using VDub and now just want to use AutoGK to easily force it to a certain filesize (700MB).

Forgot to mention that the file is on a compressed NTFS volume. This won't cause problems besides being slower will it?

what happens if you try avisource?

Sorry not really sure what you mean. I'm just using AutoGK so I just select the file, set the settings and press Add Job and Start. I don't know much about the advanced settings...

This happens in the "Analysing Source" step of AutoGK.

Oh sorry, i figured you had written your own avs script. I don't know why a program would prefer DirectShowSource over AVIsource though.

Can't help you any further though... :(

AFAIK, "Kingdom of Heaven" isn't released on DVD yet. I wonder where you got an AVI of it...

Whatever decodes input avi files chokes on it... You can check it via GSpot, change directshow decoder and retry.

Using GSpot I discovered that the AVI had AC3 audio and I had no decoder (AC3Filter) installed. I corrected that and it would still not render and found that I needed to install the sound card (it was a server with onboard sound that I never bothered to install the driver for). After installing the soundcard driver it now renders fine in GSpot and AutoGK now seems to be working on it.

Thanks for all the help!

Now if only I could get the subs working on my other comp....
