howto simulate pc2 as firewire preview device for video coming from pc1

hi guys

is it possible to simulate a pc as a firewire preview device like the dv cams lcd ?

now Sony Vegas is capable of previewing the video on another monitor or on the dv cam's screen via firewire. My video content is widescreen & my editing monitor is 17"(4:3) .. i have a laptop which has a 15.4" Widescreen(16:9) .. now its much easier if i can preview the video on this ..

is it possible to use the fullscreen of my laptop to preview the video coming from my desktop's Vegas preview via firewire .. ? If yes which player to look for to simulate laptop .. etc..etc..

the subject line's kind'f long dint know how to shorten it .. :-)

ps: i cant use the laptops screen as second monitor for windows as the laptop doesnt support any monitor ins or video ins ..
& yes i dint search for prev. posts but cudnt find anything helpful

I'm gonna guess that the best chances (if it is possible) are going to be using networking or going analog.

Using networking you'd be essentially broadcasting your video, your laptop shouldn't have any problems playing it, though I don't have any clues on intercepting the video overlay from Vegas sent to a 2ndary monitor by Vegas 6.

Using a capture device connected to your laptop, if you have 2ndary monitor support on your graphics card, you could easily do the transfer analog, but most of the devices I've seen are going to limit you to standard 4:3 frames defeating your purpose -- if your graphics card supports it, might look for external capture device for laptop that supports HD.

[know I should look up your card's capabilities, but can't at the moment -- hope this might give you an idea or 3 to look into]

well my card capabilities include dual display out .. but my laptop doesnt have any form of video in .. so thats the problem ...

but i guess there should be sumthin to simulate the laptop as a firewire device capable of taking dv-in ?

Yeah, would have to get a capture device to work with it, but the hard part is frame size I'd think.

You can use the firewire port for networking -- that's how winxp sees it -- if that helps give you somewhere to look. OTOH you want to stay away from DV, or rather the DV format or spec, since that would also limit you to a 720 frame.
