View Full Version : Movie divided over two VTS

Hi, I've got a DVD9 of the movie U-571 and I'd like to back it up to a DVD5 with DVD Rebuilder.
The problem is that the main movie is divided over two VTS. DVD Rebuilder only allows me to select one of them.

Is there any way to select both VTS in DVD Rebuilder, so both parts get re-encoded? I looked in the Stickies and searched on the forum, but couldn't find an answer to my question.

Thanks in advance.

um, select one of them? rebuilder re-encodes all sections over 50mb by default. Make sure you have steal space from extras off, or else you will overcompress half your movie.

If you are talking about in the segment previewer, uncheck the "extras only" option

@marnix88

You must be doing a movie-only project if Rebuilder will only let you select one titleset... right? If so, I'd bet one set of VOBs is a widescreen edition, while the other is a fullscreen. Since either title is small enough to burn without processing, you might profit from using DVD Shrink since no compression will be used to create a movie-only project out of this. It also wouldn't hurt to preview these titlesets so that you can be sure which one you want to keep.

The only reason you'd want to use Rebuilder on this one is if you'd like to apply filters to clear up the image on the original.

If you're meaning to do a full-disk on this one, then open Rebuilder and click on "mode." Make sure you have the full disk option checked, and your project should import without further trouble.

Both titlesets together is the total movie. The total duration of the movie is 111 minutes. When titleset 7 is finished, it automatically continuous with titleset 8.

VTS_07_1.VOB - VTS_07_3.VOB = 53min 48sec
VTS_08_1.VOB - VTS_08_3.VOB = 57min 09sec

I'll select just one of them in DVD Rebuilder and see what happens. I assumed that if I'd select only one of them, then only that titleset would be re-encoded and the other one not, which would give too much quality difference between the two. I didn't know that every section over 50MB woulde be re-encoded automatically.

Thanks :)

you cannot unselect a titleset form being encoded. All title sets are re-encoded. You can only unselect audio

Like others have said, unless you are doing a Movie only or Movie+Menus only then you should be fine.

DVD-RB's logic is to take the biggest VTS and mark that as the movie, everything else is considered an Extra, even if it is only 1 byte smaller than the largest VTS. Just make sure under the MODE menu you are in Full Backup mode and none of the Extra quality/size reduction options are turned on (Steal space or Half&Half).

PS. This movie was among the first I ever did (as Divx 3.11 with mpeg2avi) and it looked like complete garbage, mostly because Divx 3.11 wet itself at the sight of water, either above or below.
