View Full Version : Maximize DivX output resolution

Hi Everyone,
I'm fairly new here (be gentle), I've been trying to read what I can, but need a little help.

I'm trying to archive DVDs onto my hardrive for playback on a 16:9 TV through a networked hardware DivX player. I want the highest resolution possible for my DivX files.

As I understand it, NTSC anamorphic DVDs are stored on the disc as 720x576, right? So, if I want to maintain every pixle possible, shouldn't I target my output resolution to be 720x576 (minus some margin on the 576 for any black bars in case the movie's AR is not exactly 16x9), and let the DivX player stretch the image automatically? Is so, how do I go about doing that? Using AUtoGK, I always get output resolutions like 720x384, which is great for viewing on a computer or 4:3 TV, but surely I can do better for a 16x9? I've also tried using GK manually, and when setting the output resolution, I'm not 100% sure how to preceed to get the maximum available resolution. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Dave
