Can I use DVD Shrink "Reauthor" to take something out of the middle of a file? I recently learned that by right clicking on the file in reauthor mode I can adjust the beginning and the end of a file, but I have something embedded that I want to remove. Can I do that with DVD Shrink?

altough i havent tried in theory its possible
1- reauthor the dvd from the begining untill the unwanted scene and save
2- reauthor the dvd from the end of the unwanted scene untill the end of the dvd and save
3- open dvd shrink, click reauthor mode, drag the two videos you saved from the list on the right to the left and save, it should work, its like joining a flipper disc and the subtitles should also work
hope it helps

you need not save the file and all that stuff. Say you wish to take out a segment in the middle. Click the main movie and add it twice in ReAuthor mode. Set your end point to start of where you wish to edit out segment. Then your 2nd title (main movie) set start frame at end of segment.

Thanks to both of you for your help. I used the 2 file method and edited the first file to the beginning of the unwanted segment. Then I edited the second file from the end of the unwanted segment. I ended up with 2 files, but when I saved them to a DVD they played like a single file and you can't tell there are 2 files. I'll try the "save" method a little later today and report back on it.

You do a post process with VobBlanker. It has a Cut Movie opton.

"Keep Movie" retains the part within the marks.

2Cool,
I've never used VobBlanker, but will download and give it a try.
Thanks, noels

The problem with mrbass' method is that the title actually gets split into 2 seperate titles, the transition won't be noticeable in a software player on your PC, but will pause momentarily during playback in a standalone. Also since the second part is now in a seperate title, chapter navigation won't work as expected. For example if you're in a chapter in title 2 and press the previous chapter button in the remote it won't go back to the chapters in title 1.
The method ricardo.santos suggested should eliminate this problem since you'd recombine the titles into one titleset, but I haven't verified that the transition would be seamless.
2COOL's method requires a bit more work, and obviously learning another tool, but once you get familiar with VobBlanker and all that it can do, you'll probably want to go back and reauthor ALL your backups ;)

@Taelon
Hi!

I believe you'll discover that this method also generates TWO titlesets.
As an alternative, one COULD use the method suggested by ricardo.santos as the first step - and then use DVD2One (commercial software) to MERGE the two DVD sets into ONE TITLESET...

Hi and thanks to all for your replies and help. 2Cool, I downloaded VobBlanker and the guides, then did a little work with the program before I could finally get it to take the excess material out of a movie file. After getting everything set up - an input folder, output folder, and selecting the frames to cut out, it took a little more exploring to realize the "Execute" command was in the File menu instead of on the screen. But the result was worth the effort - I got a single file with the excess material excised exactlty where I wanted. Again thanks to all, and 2Cool for your second good piece of advice this week - noels

with my method the final dvd would have 2 title sets, if the dvd player is good this should pose no problem
for a seamless transition we can use dvd2one "seamless join" function.
so....
1- reauthor the dvd from the begining untill the unwanted scene and save
2- reauthor the dvd from the end of the unwanted scene untill the end of the dvd and save
3- open dvdshrink and select "seamless join mode" and join the 2 files created above
hope it helps
