Hi guys,

I convert my clay aiken dvd (region 1) to divx, and how come the result is very choppy? is it because i didn't change the frame rate to 24fps? (I still used 29.97fps).... if i play straight from the vob file it plays smooth but when i play my divx file it's very choppy....anyone know how to fix this?

We need a LOT more information from you before we can provide any help. Here's a short list of questions you need to answer: What tools are you using to go from DVD to DivX? What settings are you using with those tools? Do you have any logs from these tools you can share with us? If so, please copy and paste the text into your reply.As to whether or not you should perform an Inverse Telecine, that will depend upon whether the content was shot on film and Telecined when transferred to DVD, or if it was shot on video camera. The IVTC tutorial at www.doom9.org/ivtc-tut.htm may be helpful, even if it is a little out of date and some of the software mentioned has been updated or replaced. If you find that it is difficult to understand, you might consider using AutoGK to create your DivX encodings, it will analyze the content and determine if it should be IVTCed automatically.

i used dvd decrypter, then use avisynth + virtualdub to convert it to divx, just use 2-pass mode (850kbps each)... and all i did is just leakkerneldeinterlace and just resize it to 640x360...and the result is choppy...weird :s

...and the result is choppy...I recommend taking a look at the same "choppy" sequence twice, frame-by-frame. First in the original VOB, then in the .avi you produced. I'm guessing you will see missing frames in the .avi version. You stated:i used dvd decrypter, then use avisynth + virtualdub...And I'll guess your problem is DGIndex or DVD2AVI was used to frameserve from the VOB set into AviSynth, and was set to Force FILM mode incorrectly. Its just a guess, since you didn't mention your frameserving procedure. If my guess is right, set Field Operations to None rather than Force FILM, and re-encode.

but how come i miss the frame? i mean i still got the same 29.97 fps...anyway, my dgindex field operations is set to "Honor Pulldown Flags" which one should i use? this one or "Ignore pulldown flags"?

my frameserving is just like that, just open the video with dgindex, convert to d2v then use avisynth (just deinterlace, resize and crop) ...

As I said, it was only a guess. Have you examined a scene? You can use VirtualDubMod (not VirtualDub) to compare the scenes in a .vob and an .avi. What you perceive as "choppy" may not be missing information, it may be something else.

In newer releases of DGIndex, "Honor Pulldown Flags" is equivalent to the older "None" in Field Operations. I guessed wrong. ;)

oh okay...i'll try it then send u message, coz i just got a bit problem with mkv files.... if you see my post on the mkv i got a weird problem so i'm a bit got lot of troubles here hahaha

VirtualDubMod can deal with .mkv as well as .vob and .avi files.

yup, i know that one but i got this problem (i just copy from my other post), hope you can help me with this

I got a bit problem with matroska files, i used matroska lite pack 1.1.1, and last time i convert my movies to divx + ac3 works fine, it can play on both wmp and bsplayer, then i tried to include subtitle (.srt) file and everytime i want to play on bsplayer always got error message. but still can play on wmp perfectly

then another problem comes, last time i converted mulan dvd to divx 6, ac3 + srt subtitle, and it works perfectly fine on wmp, but then i convert another dvd (scary movie 3) and it can't play on wmp and bsplayer! it's so weird, if i tried to remove the subtitle from scary movie 3 it can play perfectly, only happens if i insert the subtitle.....anyone knows about this problem? it's so weird.....

and i just found another bug, at first i can't play scary movie, then i try to crop only little part of it, it can play but got a green line across the entire movie...but not for my other movies.... can see on the screenshots

and i try to play mulan on my friend's computer with matroska lite pack 1.1.1 it works but didnt work for scary movie 3 too...all i did is just simply copy with dvdfab decrypter, frameserve it, resize & crop, then use ac3 & .srt file but didnt work..... weird... :confused:

yup, i know that one but i got this problem (i just copy from my other post), hope you can help me with this...Please keep the focus in your thread on your one problem. I understand you have multiple problems, but "hijacking" your own thread isn't the way to go about solving them. This last post violates Rules #3 and #8 (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm).

And we won't be able to help you any further on your "choppy" problem until you do what has been asked of you, already, twice.

i checked the vob and the divx file already and i dont really sure how you know whether you got the missing frame or not....how to check it?

Stepping through the same scene frame-by-frame. If they're the same sequence of frames, and you don't see any differences in the images (other than deinterlacing / resizing) then your problem is most likely playback related.

You can prepare a small fragment of both the original .vob and your .mkv/.avi and make them available to us for review, if you'd like. VdubMod can be used for .mkv/.avi, and ChopperXP can be used for the .vob file(s).

gantengx sent me a sample of his avi (1.7MB) and his vob (7.0MB), which I'm making available for the next couple of days if anyone is interested.

I also learned, via PM, that gantengx was using Telecide(), due to confusion over documentation included with his deinterlacing filter. I believe this is the source of his trouble.

When I looked at these two samples I saw that The vob source is 100% interlaced, and should not have any Inverse Telecine of any type used. The .avi does indeed show frame mismatches, which I believe were due to the use of Telecide() to attempt to recover non-existant progressive frames.The frame mismatches are most noticable during panning -- look to the panning sequence where the little toy horse on the mantlepiece (the shelf over the fireplace) moves out-of-frame on the right. Its easiest to see as the little red saddle on the horse moves out-of-frame. There are duplicate fields from Telecide()'s attempted pattern matching.

I could see it -- one field in the frame would shift, the other would stay constant.

I didn't bother running various field based filter functions on it, since it looked obvious to me. If you don't see it yourself, and need to confirm it, you can use field based analysis within AviSynth, such as SeparateFields() and JDL_SelectField().

But I think that Don Graft's documentation for Telecide() should be sufficient to point to your procedural error. In part, it says (highlight mine):Telecide(): Recovers progressive frames (by finding and aligning matching fields) but does not remove resulting duplicates and does not change the frame rate or frame count. Do not use Telecide on streams that do not contain telecined progressive frames, such as pure interlaced video....
