Hello.
Yesterday i used dvdshrink to make backup of my original bought dvd from the store.
I wanted to resize the backup file to 90 percent of a full dvd-5 disc.
Usually this is never a problem.
But right after the encoding got finished, and right before the burning process should start, i got an errormessage telling me that
"Reallocating of files" failed, so the burning could not start.
Anyone know anything about why this happened?
The message though told me that the output files were ok and saved in a spesific folder. So, i guess that the problmes started just when i was starting the burning process.
I therefore tried to burn the files directly, ( making a movie-dvd i nero), but then i got the error message again; "reallocating of files failed" and a new mesasge, telling me that one of the main vob-files were missng..."ooo1.vob or something like that".
Anyone ever experienced such a thing before?
Why should one of the main vobs suddenly be missing?
I didnt rip anything before i started the encodingprocess in dvdshrink, and i had plenty of space on my harddrive.

Appreciate any tips and hints on this one.

Best regards:

I'd start by running scandisk on the drive, sounds like a bad sector to me.

Hmm...I will do that. If the problem continues i will make a new post :)

i got an errormessage telling me that "Reallocating of files" failed, so the burning could not start.

A "File Reallocation" notification (which is from NERO, whether from within DVD Shrink or directly in NERO) usually does not prevent starting the burn process. Rather, it is followed with the question, "Do you want to continue - Yes or No". You should select "Yes", as it seldom or ever will result in a bad burn...

Hello
No, thats not right in this case.
The error-report i got was somewhat like this:
"Reallocation of files failed. However, DvdShrink finished the encoding of files successfully, and they can be found here: "

I got no choice to continue burning. The burning didnt start in the first place, even though i ofcourse had chosen my dvd-burner as destination of the files.

What is the Title and Region of the DVD?

The error-report i got was somewhat like this:
"Reallocation of files failed. However, DvdShrink finished the encoding of files successfully, and they can be found here:"

Would you please be good enough to post the EXACT wording of the message generated by DVD Shrink?

FWIW, I've gotten this error in Nero when one of the VOB files was zero size.

Hello, once more.
Thanx for the replies.

I think the region of the dvd is usa. In what way to dyou think the region of the dvd has anything to do with it ?

The errormessage i got was 99% like the one i posted above.

Im not sure if one of the vobs were zero size, but i will look into it.

@pellets

In what way to dyou think the region of the dvd has anything to do with it ?

The SAME title can have DIFFERENT copy protection schemes in different Regions.

So again, I'll ask, what is the DVD TITLE?

Im not sure if one of the vobs were zero size, but i will look into it.

As "fcchandler" stated, similarly to what I stated in my first post to this thread, this is sometimes the cause for NERO generating a "File Reallocation" message. You have stated twice that the error message you've received is being generated by DVD Shrink and NOT NERO, PRIOR to the start of the burn process.

Once again, would you please be good enough to post the EXACT wording of the message generated by DVD Shrink?

Hello again :)
Sorry for the late answer, but i had to come home from work etc.

Here is the exact error message i get: ( Its very long)

Puh...
For some reason it seems that the 'VIDEO_TS.VOB' are missing, and i dont understand why this file suddenly dissapears when i resize the output.

Under COmpression Settings in Dvd-shrink I choose Custom Ratio, and change the value to 90 percent. I dont remove any subtitles.
There should be no copy protections sine i have already ripped it using dvd decrypter to my harddricve, before starting using dvd-shrink.

1) This is a NERO message, and NOT a DVD Shrink message

2) Yet again, what is the TITLE of the DVD?

3) Make certain to use DVD Decrypter v.3.54 to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").

Then use DVD Shrink v.3.2xxx to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk")

Hello again, and thanx for the answer :)

2) The movie is a zone 2 movie.
3) I will have your tip in mind when i going to make a backup next time.

I guess you have a reason for avoiding ( 3 times) stating the TITLE of the DVD. This will just make it more difficult for people to help you...

Hello, once more.

I thought it was the region of the movie which was important, not the title ? Regarding one of you other answers in this thread.
But, the title is "Elektra".

It's important for you to answer any and all questions asked in order to help you; i. e. certain titles have different encryption methods and can't be decrypted with DVD Decrypter alone. It's especially important to note that when you avoid answering a question like the title, it creates suspicion as to whether you may be working with material which has not yet been made available to the general public.

Elektra has been out in Europe for over a month, and im ofcourse talking about backup of this original bought dvd of mine.
There will always be fanatics out there, thinking the worse about everyone.
I just have to live with that. There are social dumbnuts everywhere.
But most people are a ok, and tries to help without playing detective.
You have been helpful though with your tips, and next time i will make a backup i will try the tips you wrote in this post.
