I am about to convert a lot of my DVD's to have them on my Media Server.
I have, without any problems, converted many of them. Nice! But one of them is strange. I cant get any subs on it.

Hi-
[06-09-2005 00:30:01] Target quality: 75%
All versions can do 1-pass or 2-pass. You set it up for a 1-pass Quality Mode. If you had set it up for a size (1 CD, 2 CD, etc) it would have run 2 passes.
As for not getting any subs, that's more difficult. Did you run the Preview trying out different subtitle streams? Did you check the IDX file that was created to see if it had any time stamps? I see this is an LOTR movie? And you wanted the Elvish talk, maybe? Maybe it's not a Forced Subtitle stream (I forget now), but has its own Stream. If so, don't check the "Forced Subtitles" box. Anyway, run the Preview before wasting all the time encoding, to make sure you have it right.

Hi and thanks for your help.
Yes, it is LOTR movie. And yes, I absolutely agree - there should'n be any subs on such fine movie. :) But my kids wants subtitles.
The Forced Subtitles have not been checked.

If I preview with "0x20 - Subtitle - English" chosen, it works.
If I preview with "0x25 - Subtitle - Dansk" chosen, it does NOT works.
If I preview with "0x26 - Subtitle - Svenska" chosen, it does NOT works.
Only the first one.

Hi-
I'm not sure I can help, then. This may be a job for len0x. Can you confirm that the subs were actually created, even if they didn't show up in the AVI? Open the IDX file, like with Notepad, and below all the writing at the top, should be many, many Timestamps, which refer to the actual sub pictures stored in the companion SUB file. Perhaps other people have some ideas about the problem.

Another guy with a similar problem (I think) http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=99297 wrote at the end:
I figured out what was the problem.. In some DVD that come with magazines there is a "subtitles mapping" problem (if I'm saying it correctly). The subtitle streams start from 0x21 instead of 0x20.. I chose remaping to 0x20 through DVD Decrypter, edited the stream_information text file and the problem was solved..
I have tried the same thing. Remapped all subs to 0x20 and counting. Also modified the stream-file. Same result -> no subs.
In the idx-file there are 1039 lines starting with "timestamp:". :) And the sub-file-size is 4.710.400 bytes. So yes, I can confirm that.
Start of idx-file:
# VobSub index file, v7 (do not modify this line!)
#
# To repair desyncronization, you can insert gaps this way:
# (it usually happens after vob id changes)
#
# delay: [sign]hh:mm:ss:ms
#
# Where:
# [sign]: +, - (optional)
# hh: hours (0 <= hh)
# mm/ss: minutes/seconds (0 <= mm/ss <= 59)
# ms: milliseconds (0 <= ms <= 999)
#
# Note: You can't position a sub before the previous with a negative value.
#
# You can also modify timestamps or delete a few subs you don't like.
# Just make sure they stay in increasing order.

Yeah, they look OK to me. Here's something else to check. In the AutoGK FAQ (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=72679), Question 3.4 says:
3.4 Subtitles are out of synch/absent. What's wrong?
- Angle and PGC file naming probably was not used AutoGK has not idea about what was ripped. Of course sometimes DVD can be badly mastered, in which case you have to manually deal with them. Also subs will not be shown properly if you selected only several chapters/cells from PGC as VobSub only works with the whole vobset. As of version 2.12 AutoGK presents a choice of PGCs/Angles to the user upon parsing of IFO file - make sure to select the correct ones. If you don't use subs then selection is not used and you don;t have to select the correct PGC/Angle.
So, go back into DVD Decrypter and up at the top go Tools->Settings->IFO Mode, and in the lower right corner, inside of the File Names box, make sure that you have both "Include PGC Number" and "Include Angle Number" checked. However, from your Stream Information.txt information that you posted earlier, it looks as if you may already have those boxes checked.

There is a good chance that sub stream doesn't have forced subs at all, just normal ones (unlike english stream). So that option should be switched off.

I made a preview with all the subs remapped. This time i DID see danish subtitles. Weeee! :)
I then startet to convert the movie. After some time it comes with an error from VirtualDub:
Avisynth open failure:
Script error: there is no function named "WriteFile"
(F:\dvd\vob\1-1\agk_tmp\_.avs, line 10)
I can make a preview, but convert the movie.

OK, don't know what happened to my avisynth. I de-installed all. Installed "AutoGK 1.96", downloaded and installed "AutoGK 2.17 beta". I ran the conversion again on both the standard IFO-rip and on the IFO-rip that have been remapped.
The remapped version works. So the conclusion is, if you have trouble's with missing subtitles, maybe you need to remap a few. Remember to modify the " - Stream Information.txt" as well.
len0x, is that something that AutoGK can handle in the future or is it impossible?
Thanks for all your help. I am a little wiser after this. :)

I am not talking about remastering. Maybe a stupid question, but I thought that AutoGK maybe could handle wrongly mapped tracks. But, again, I am only a newbie in this area. :) So I am guessing.
In my situation, the first subtitle was 0x20, the next one was 0x25.
