I keep hearing people talking about a smart smoother in Nandub and VirtualDub, but they only have a regular smoother and it does crap to the video. I saw some posts with some pics of what the smartsmoother was able to do in Nandub and such, but I got nandub, and it has the same thing a VirtualDubmod. If there is a filter smartsmoother, and it is as great as everyone says it is, then where can I get it and how? I am probably just confusing myself, but if not, then someone help me. If i am, please slap me.

If there is a filter smartsmoother, and it is as great as everyone says it is, then where can I get it and how? SmartSmoother was a filter I wrote early in the desktop video evolution. It was pretty radical at the time but even more capable adaptive smoothers are now available, espcially under Avisynth. Nevertheless, it is still a useful tool. Here are two links for you, The first is to my SmartSmoother. The second is to a similar but much more capable filter by Klaus Post. Get your feet wet with the first and do production with the second.

It's a fine art to get the settings right but it is one of the best noise reducers out there, especially for anime. Warpsharp might help a little but it won't restore detail. It works best on blurry anime. Smart Smoother on 5,35 will give some good results without sacrificing much detail.

Just for fun, can you post a link to a short unprocessed source clip, or upload it to my FTP server?
