View Full Version : Having Dvd play back problems after updating nero

I just installed the newest nero 6 ultra major edition update (6.6.0.16) and now if I burn the entire dvd, with the menus, etc. when I play it in my dvd player every dvd I burned freezes up my dvd player. Unfortunately since I had never had this problem before I burned several movies without realizing it. These same movies play perfectly on my pc, however. Also, if I burn the movie only, they still play fine on my dvd player. I also tried some DVDs that I previously burned prior to updating with the full dvd, menus, etc and they also play fine on my dvd player. Any suggestions? Thanks

You didn't say how you are authoring your dvds, but you might want to either downgrade to your previous version of Nero (no idea about the particular one you mentioned, but Ahead has managed to introduce new bugs into new versions of Nero) OR simply create an image file and burn that using e.g. dvddecrypter.

I am using DVD Shrink and then Nero Recode 2. The frustrating thing is When I burn movie only they play fine, and on my PC they play fine. The only thing I have done is update to the new nero major edition update. By bugs do you mean they just have some bugs not worked out in their software or are they deliberately targeted towards hampering dvd burning?
:thanks:

Hi!

when I play it in my dvd player every dvd I burned freezes up my dvd player.

1) Have you recently started a new pack of burnable media? If so, the quality (even if it's the same BRAND NAME you've previously used) may be lower, especially toward the outer edge of the disc - where the end of the movie and/or extras are typically burned.

These same movies play perfectly on my pc, however.

2) Does the BURNED DVD "play perfectly" on your PC, when played "As DVD" (NOT simply individual .VOBs)?

3) Try burning at a lower speed

If you're already using dvd shrink, I second the suggestion to use dvdd, which has an excellent burn engine. Set your target to make the iso & burn with dvd decrypter, and it will kick in automatically.

I had problems with nero long ago, and never use it to burn movies anymore; however, it still works fine on data compilations ...

Try burning at a lower speed

Probably the best suggestion - I updated my Roxio to the newest edition, and before I could not burn higher than 4X, with new it defaulted to the highest burn speed of the media. Higher burn speeds, especially at the maximum of the drive or the media, usually mean less compatibility between different drives.

I learned alot form these posts thanks particularly to blutach for the links to detailed information. Still haven't found a fix for the new nero, but I have switched to burning with decrypter and I really do think its better anyway. Thanks for the help.

Glad to hear that you've "learned a lot". However, I'd appreciate it if you'd be good enough to answer the questions I asked you earlier in this thread, to wit:

1) Have you recently started a new pack of burnable media? If so, the quality (even if it's the same BRAND NAME you've previously used) may be lower, especially toward the outer edge of the disc - where the end of the movie and/or extras are typically burned.

The information that you refer to from Blutach is in this thread:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=99571

setarip_old asked the same question on your media in that thread, too, so closing this one will not prevent you from answering in the other forum. Please don't cross-post in the future, but by all means, continue the thread above if you're still having problems.

When an old hand, like setarip_old, takes the time to offer advice, you'll find find that it generally pays off to answer their questions; they are not asked idlely. Good luck.
