Hi Folks,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, if so i ask please for a moderator to put it in the correct forum, thank you.

I have a 1 hour SVCD movie, which is a 4:3 image.
I take it SVCD's are MPEG2, how can i get the SVCD to display as a MPEG2? do i need to convert it to an MPEG2?

I basically want to burn this movie with a load of my other movies onto a DVD+RW and play it back in my compatible stand alone DVD & MPEG 4 Player.

How can i go about doing this?

any help much appreciated

Thank you very much

DVDLab/DVDLabPro will accept SVCD files DIRECTLY for conversion to DVD. Although it's a commercial program, a fully functional free 30 day trial version is available for download...

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply, do you know if DvdLab/Pro can convert SVCD to a MPEG2 stream so i can just add that to my list of AVI movies and burn to one DVD disc as a data disc.

From what your saying it seems that i have to convert from SVCD to DVD as in a DVD file that needs to be burnt as a DVD image. Which is not what i am looking for.

Any help much appreciated

Thank you

@dvdbunny1

I am surprised your SAP cannot read SVCD's, if you want to extract an Mpeg 2 stream from a SVCD you can use VCDGear which is a free tool.

Your title to this thread is a bit misleading though which is probably why setarip_old suggested using DVD-LAb Pro which is a good idea also.

So does your DVD Player read AVI's also?

Hi Zyphon,

I am sorry if it is misleading i did not intend to mislead anyone, My DVD player does play SVCD's but i can't burn the movie i got which is a SVCD and i can't burn it because i have not got any CD-R discs. So i want to convert the SVCD into AVI so i can burn it to a DVD+R or DVD+RW disc.
My DVD player is a DIVX DVD player, I can play DIVX, XVID, VCD, SVCD, DVD on the player so yes it does understand AVI
movies.

My SVCD movie comes in a bin and cue format, i have mounted the image in daemon tools and went to my computer and explored the contents of the image and found the following folders:

EXT
EXTRA
MPEG2
SEGMENT
SVCD

I went into the MPEG2 folder, and copied and pasted the single file which is named AVSEQ01 Now i noticed this ends in .mpg extension. So it is basically an MPEG now VCD's are MPEG1 right? and SVCD's are MPEG2 right?

So as DVD movies are MPEG2 aswell but in a much higher bitrate than SVCD's how can i get this AVSEQ01 file to play on my DVD player, i already burnt AVSEQ01 to a DVD+RW as a data disc and tried playing it on my DVD player and was not able to play it. I even tried burning the bin file as a data disc onto a DVD+RW disc but it would not play on my DVD player.
I don't know if i need to convert this file, as AVSEQ01 is already an MPEG2 movie so how do i get it to play on my DVD player?

Please, any help much appreciated

Many thanks

So i want to convert the SVCD into AVI

If this is, in fact, all you are trying to accomplish, you could do this by using any one of a number of different programs including, VirtualDubMOD, FlaskMPEG, MPEG Mediator...

The file in the MPEG2 directory has different headers from a true MPEG file.
Use VCDGear to extract the file from the disc. This will correct the headers and you should find, when burned, this will play in your DVD player.

I doubt you will need to convert to AVI but if you do, go to the Doom9 homepage and :readguid:

Doesn't AutoGK accept Mpeg2 streams as an input? I just can't remember.
