help with divx3 fast-motion playback ..

hi guys ...

ive a problem with playing a DivX 3 fast-motion encoded video ..

gspot & virtualdub shows that the video is 1hr40mins encoded at 743kbps
& its size is 624MB but if played in mplayer classic or recompressed in
virtualdub i get only 9 mins of content ..

i'd like to know how to fix this issue .. & yes i did try all the ways
to install up divx3.11 & uninstalled divx6 .. but still nothing ..
the video or audio doesnt play past 9mins even it plays back using divx3 :confused:

Really guessing...

Assuming you've tried the various fix utilities...
Can you go past the 9 min mark using/moving the V/Dub timeline? If so, can you render or re-encode or copy a selection past the 9 min mark? And if so there, perhaps you could create 2 videos and join. Another possibility might be to try the winmedia encoder.

1) Have you tried using VirtualDubMOD, or similar, to seek out and "Mask Bad Frames"?

2) If (as I presume) this is NOT a file that you've created, you may have either a corrupt or fake file

well .. if i could re-encode in vdub i wouldnt have bothered to make a post .. :-) and yes i did try vdubmod

and setarip_old u guessed it rite .. i dint create this file - thats all .. its not a p2p download(i know now it'll sound its a p2p download) .. only thing is if it was i wudve happily downloaded it again by the time someone responds to the post ... unfortunatly its an old school video .. it was encoded a long time back & the guy who encoded it claims it was working fine till he formatted his pc ..

guys i badly need to make this file work .. do help me out ..

Think that both setarip_old & I were suggesting that there might be a bad frame or two, file damaged etc. that might be stopping the video at the 9 min mark -- the file is read to that point and the data it's supposed to find next isn't found. If you could manually scan past that point in V/Dub, it would mean the rest of the data is there & usable. setarip_old suggested another method. I *think* winmedia encoder 9 might be a bit more tolerant of a break in the video file.

File could have been damaged... might try other methods/software for retrieving orig. or repairing the file you've got.

thanks mic i'll try out wme 9 ..

and when i said "formatted his pc" .. what i had in mind was formatted the windows drive & re-installed xp .. nothing to do with other drives .. so the file is not affected .. hopefully ..

but then again do suggest me some methods/softz for repairing the file as im not very familiar with them .. & btw gspot2.52 claims the file is perfect file-length correct,01:40 length etc.etc.. except it doesnt connect with any of the filters & keeps giving error "There is no common media type between these pins" .. but media player classic & vdubmod manages to render 9mins44secs of the video ..

RE: repairing files -- google on avi file repair & similar and you'll get a huge number of results. There's several prog., many are trials, but you'll also see freeware like avimaster (http://www.thozie.de/avimaster/) & avi medic (http://geocities.com/avimedic/?20055)

If it interests, last year (March or April I think) Avery Lee at Virtualdub.org had an article describing or explaining what usually goes wrong with an avi.

Really a huge guess, could try de-muxing the audio in something like avimux_gui, and see if the result would work in anything.

thanks mic .. well i finally i realised the file is - like u said corrupt .. AVIMedic was the only app that really helped .. it showed that the beginning and ending of the file is present but the rest is corrupted .. & require a patch file from the working file .. which i have no chance of getting ..
