Using german "Video de Luxe 2005/2006 plus" I got some issues encoding my avi-Files to mpeg2. Some frames seem to be double in the vob-file.

I filmed with my digicam a scene from the monitor to give you a better feeling of it. The quality is not sooo good, but I think it's ok to understand my issue. Please watch the move of the curtain and the move of my son.

Regarding the encoding settings I considered various hints out of german forums, but so far, I didn't manage to avoid this phenomenon.

The original tape is filmed in PAL and the capturing to PC create no problems. The avi-file on the HD is ok, but the (already splitted) vob-file on HD after encoding has this kind of wobble. It is not over the complete film, just at some specific positions. Note, it's played from HD. When I tried to encode just this single scene (approx. 40s), the result is ok.

This morning I encode a second film and the result is the same: double frames at some specific positions.

Yesterday I also updated my via-drivers as this was a suggestion out of a german forum.

I'm using an american version of WinXP, but german programs which are adjusted on PAL. Is there maybe the problem? Is in WinXP maybe a reference regarding NTSC or PAL, which maybe create the problem?

Please let me know, if you have any hints. Thank you.

I'm using a Ligos mpeg2 encoder.

It would be preferable if you post a part of the VOB file. The VOB fragment would give us much better information. You can use ChopperXP to make it a reasonable size. Even better would be to also see a fragment of the original captured AVI file.

Hi,

I created some extracts from the vob-file and the avi-source.

There is a large vob-ectract (~10MB)

http://webpages.charter.net/artwal/vobextract.vob

and an smaller extract from it (3.5MB, very short)

http://webpages.charter.net/artwal/vobextract1.vob

(Is there a chance to reduce the size of a vob-file with chopperXP ?)

With MS Windows Movie maker I created a wmf-file from the avi-source (~900k). I don't know another way to split an avi-file, sorry.

It would be great, if you have an idea, how to deal with this phenomenon, please let me know, if you need additional information. Thanks.

The source AVI appears fine but the VOB is not. So tell us exactly how you created the VOB from the AVI, i.e., all applications used and the steps, as well as the settings. I have no idea what you mean by:

german "Video de Luxe 2005/2006 plus"

Hi,

as far as I know the US name from the software is Magix "Movie Edit Pro", I use the german version "2005/2006 plus".

Here are some of the settings I used (I try my best to get a reasonable translation):

Encoding for TV:

Fader "slow" (20).
Videoformat PAL
Framerate 25
Video ratio 4:3
Interlace-settings: Bottom field first
Bitrate variable
Maximum bitrate = 7456KBit/s
Avesage bitrate 7000KBit/s
P-Frames 48/48 B-Frames 32/32
Group of Pictures: sequence
Amount p-frames 4
Amount b-frames 2
Audio-bitrate 384 KBit/s
Audio-sampling 48 KHz
Audio-codec MPEG

My Computer:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (US version)
OS Service Pack Service Pack 2
DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
CPU Typ AMD Athlon 64, 1800 MHz (9 x 200) 3000+
Motherboard chipset VIA K8T890, AMD Hammer
RAM 1024 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM) (~270MB used by system processes)
RADEON X300 Series (128 MB)
ATI Radeon X300 (RV370)

My Camcoder: Panasonic NV-GS250 EG (PAL)

Please note, if I try to encode just these 30s of the avi file, the vob-result is ok. Please let me know, if you need more specific information. Thanks for your help.

I would try a different MPEG encoder, such as HC, Quenc, or TMPGEnc.
