View Full Version : Backup Extras Only?

I searched around Doom9 but couldn't come up with anything that really answers this (see subject).

With most backups I typically backup only the movie and primary soundtrack to get the best quality. But many times I'd like to backup the extras, and only the extras, but to a separate disc. There may be commercial programs that do this but is there any way to get DVD-RB Pro to do it, and actually have a working extras-only disc?

I want to do this with my Alien(s) and Jaws movies (as well as others) but don't know of any way to do it other than to split the movie into two discs, which I have done several times using IFO Editor. I don't like to split movies because then I have to swap discs right in the middle of viewing the movie (I always watch my backups and store my originals away safely), and I don't have a "pure" backup. The only option I see for a "pure" backup is to backup using DL discs, which are still very pricey ($3-4 each).

Any ideas?

Perhaps this feature could be added to RB-Pro?

Blank the movie with either PgcEdit or VobBlanker. If extras are small enough to fot onto a DVD5, then simply burn. If not use DVDDRB to encode them.

Pardon my question, but have you tried this and do you have working copies of extras discs?

I haven't used PgcEdit or VobBlanker but I guess they can't be any harder to use than splitting a movie with IFO Editor.

They absolutely work. And pretty easy, especially if you've mapped your titles and titlesets.

You could also blank the Main Movie (all segments) with the EDITOR/VIEWER in DVD Rebuilder.

And of course jdobbs's suggestion is workable using just DVDRB. Most times, however, the extras will fit easy onto a single disk and will require no compresssion.

I've tried this.

The Preview/Edit tab doesn't show the main movie segments--only the extras segments. So you can only blank the audio tracks of the main movie (via the Input Settings tab) and not the main movie video segments, because they don't appear under Preview/Edit.

You might want to try unclicking "Show Extra Segments Only" under the View/Edit menu... ;)

OOPS! Now why didn't I think of that. :D

Thanks!
