Firefox is my first, then Opera is a good second. Too mych bulk to my taste and doesn,t render pages as cool as FF, but it's always better than IE :devil:

Neither does the free version of Opera 8. Just block the Opera "ad.com" sites with your firewall. Gives a blank space.
Then just elect Opera ads by button od startup. Easy peasy...

In fact: I don't know who really needs mouse gestures or voice activation (IMHO, this made it some "bloatware", remember when it only took one diskette). But still, there are several details of behaviour I got used to, so I must state: I usually prefer Opera (currently still v7).

Got my keys and must say it's really not bad though it seems like it's not extensible like Firefox which has some darn good extensions like Sage (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=77&vid=1147).

It is good that they gave out some free keys but I will still stick with my good 'ol "tried and tested" FF this for me is the only choice. :D

In fact: I don't know who really needs mouse gestures or voice activation visually impaired and handicapped people, which exist on this planet and who require such tools and "goodies" to work with their computers and to access and actually *use* the internet in a similar fashion you do with your keyboard and "precise" mouse clicks -- something "normal" people (and zillions of webdesigners) tend to forget and ignore too often.

Opera 2.x(!) was the first, and for very along time the only browser, offering "page/text zoom", user defined [contrasting] colors, instant no-table and no-image display etc. for exactly that reason and audience, 'cos none of the "big two" (MSIE3 and NS4) had such options -- and them incl. FF still suffer from such supporting features.
If web-access had been at the same level/price back in 1995/96 as it's now, Opera would have able to kick-off MSIE/NS from user desktops just as FF is now, beeing fully free at that time.
I have various versions installed (try this with IE) to cross-test my websites for "standard compliance", but I browse with FF with a bunch of extensions installed.

Gone is adware Opera. It's now free. Apparently the 10th Anniversary give-away was so popular, it clued the company into how much market share they were losing in trying to make a buck on ads. You can still buy Opera to support the company and for tech support.

I wonder if there is a browser that is easily extensible like in MS Office or OpenOffice I can throw in some VB code in a few minutes if a particular feature is missing. Once I tried to find out how to do a little Firefox extension and within 20 minutes I didn't even find a single hint about how to get started.

Congratulations to Opera Software ASA for their decision, anyway. It's a good move. And their suite (yes, suite, not just "a browser") keeps getting better and better (e.g. integrated BitTorrent support definitely is a great idea - like so many other novelties they introduced in the past), while keeping size and resources use very limited. One of the very few companies that got nowadays' "integrate-everything-into-a-single-software" motto the right way. Some guys in Redmond should take a look and learn ;)

I view Firefox and Opera as basically equal browsers, I just use Firefox because A. I'm extremely lazy most of the time and don't want to replace my browser, B. Firefox sounds cooler than Opera. :P

That's just a reflection of your vuglar tastes. Us sophisticated folk really appreciate the beauty in opera <picking up my monocle>. Firefox just sounds like a singed mutt.

Sigh. I kind of feel robbed. Those codes I cut-and-pasted for safe-keeping were treasure, as small as they were, now they're worthless.

I used to use opera (v4 or 5) before i discovered Firefox, can't have degraded by too much since then.

I tried running Linspire from the CD. But, at some point during loading, the light in my cheap Micro Innovations PS/2 optical mouse goes off and so I have no working mouse. That mouse works just fine with Windows; and, my other mice work fine with Linspire, on that same PC. But, if I can't run with my cheap optical mouse, I'm not going to run Linspire (I don't want to use my trackball mice, and my better optical mice are being used on better computers).

It has me scratching my head.

I tried opera for a little while, but got distracted before fully testing it out. My initial impressions were that it was very slick and a snappy performer. It lacked the extensive customization and advanced features (via extensions) that I like from FireFox, but looks like a good alternative to IE.

Currently I'm having a few issues with FF that I'm hoping Deer Park will fix, along with a performance increase. Until then I might give Opera a more extensive test drive.

Now that it's free, I've (just) installed it -- and for my use, it seems incomparably better than FireFox.For some strange reason, FileFox used to conflict with my speech recognition software, so if I had them both switched on at once FireFox semi-regularly swallowed up 200-300 MB of memory for a while and then crashed (in that order, unfortunately ;) ). I still used it as my main browser, but even when it was working smoothly, it was mildly unresponsive a lot of the time -- I've only realised the degree to which that was the case after installing Opera. So...

To anyone else dictating to their PC, I heartily recommend it! No more having to write posts in notepad to avoid losing them!
