No sound in .avi file although GSpot 2.21 detects no error

When I play this .avi file, Media Player Classic shows the following message with a graph with blue, red, and green lines: ‘This AVI file was not prepared for sequential reading, the alternative ‘Avi Splitter’ will now let the default one handle it. The complete reinterleaving of this file is strongly recommended before burning it onto a slow media like cd-rom.’ When I close the window, the player plays the file fine but with no sound. I have already copied and ran the divxdec.ax file into my directory system 32 (Windows 2000). Other player do not play the file at all (Windows Media Player, DivX Player, Real Player, VLC Media Player).

GSpot shows that this is a valid .avi file with 45% video data and 55% audio data. The Video Codec is DivX 5.0 which is installed. Audio Codec is PCM Audio: Bitrate 768 kb/s (384/ch, stereo), Fs 48000 Hz. I’d appreciate any help? Thanks.

Just reinterleave your file using VirtualDub!

have u try to use VLC?

maybe it is just a silent PCM audio...

I installed VirtualDub 1.6.10 and read the VirtualDub procedures in the forum. I loaded the .avi file and used the following settings before pushing F7 (save as .avi):
Video/Direct stream copy
Audio/Enable audio/video interleaving
Audio/No Compression (PCM)
Audio/Source Audio (AVI audio is not available in the menu)
Audio/Full processing mode

All players now open the file without any re-interleaving messages but there is still no sound. Sorry to bother you again.

@Smile2: I can move the volume control in the VLC player but there is no sound. In my system control/Sounds and multimedia/Hardware/Audiocodecs several audio codecs are installed. Could one of them interfere with PCM audio?
