hi dudes,
i found a lot of posts but none helped me specifically. i try to rip a non-decrypted dvd which has a crc error in one vob which also shows in playback but the dvd player software continues after some seconds and a few pixelated frames - however, every ripping software i tried including vobsub for the subtitles hangs at this spot and shuts down....
isn't there anything i can do?????

I've used dvd decrypter, after cfg it to skip errors (it "learnes" your answers after some time and fills with "0" bad data packets) so eventually you end up with a working title, although jumpy and disrupted video.
hope that helps. good luck.

hi leila2,
you have not mentioned what your end result is going to be?
do you simply want to make a 1:1 copy of this DVD?
do you need to compress/alter the DVD?
as the original in question is not encrypted, you may want to try a data recovery program such as IsoBuster (http://www.isobuster.com/) to get the files onto your computer, then process as required.
let us know how you get on
cheers

Hi!
Just wanted to point out that unless it's a typo or a misstatement, "leila2" stated that she/he is working with a "non-DEcrypted" DVD and not a DVD that's not encrypted...

hi my friendz,
It is actually non-encrypted - my fault. i tried vav's suggestions and got the problematic 3rd vob on my hd by dvd decrypter using error ignor and setting retry to 0. there were about 20 defect frames. Once I had the files on the hd i could also index the subs but had to confirm to ignor bad headers for the defect 20 frames. ripped xvid was out of sync and had to be re-synced - subs also but now i have a good backup of this rare dvd...
jel, i would be all the same interested in the backup solution using isobuster. i only know this tool to rip mpegs from vcds to my hd...
