View Full Version : Creating a DVD image with adjusted picture without re-encoding?

I have a DVD from Japan that I can only play in my region-1 DVD player by using DVD Decrypter to create a region-free image. This DVD also has a picture which is too bright and undersaturated. I was thinking as long as I have to make a copy, maybe I can make the picture look better. Is it possible to do such a thing in a non-destructive way? If so, which software is recommended? I do not want to compress the video and possibly introduce visual artifacts. Thanks in advance!

Perhaps you could rip the DVD with Decrypter (or whatever your preferred method is) then run it through DVD Rebuilder Pro set at "No Compression" and use the "AVS Filter Editor" to apply an AviSynth script and a series of filters to adjust the video. You could first use DGIndex and Cuttermaran to get a small sample of video to experiment with using AviSynth until you find a sequence of filters that will achieve the effect you want.
I've never done this myself and I have no idea if it'll work so you'll probably want to check it with someone who knows what they're talking about first.

Sorry, that wouldn't work. No Compression means AVS isn't even used. The video is demuxed as MPG video and then remuxed back directly, without any changes.
There is no way to do this without re-encoding the video. Theoretically, it may be possible, but I don't know of any tool that could do it.

Virtualdubmod can alter brightness, colour and so on, but you'll have to re-encode in the process. Search for some guides.
Peace.
