MCE2005 & divx problems

I recently installed mce2005 I liked most of what it has to offer but it seems to have a problem skipping forwarding divx or xvid file can. Do u have a work around with this problem?

Players need to come across a key frame before they can begin showing you any video. With MPEG-4 (XviD, DivX, etc.) these are often as much as 10 seconds apart.

Well, this also depends on the decoder filter you use.

If the problem you're getting is ... some seconds of poor or no video, followed by the video playing fine ... then you forwarded to a point several seconds before a keyframe.

You could always try a different player than WMP; the general consensus among the membership is that there are better software players available; Doom9's download page has plenty.

DAavenger is correct; the decoder used on playback also may have an impact. The decoder could be XviD or DivX, of course. Each of these codecs can decode the other's video; how you have them configured will determine which is used -- and if you have no idea which is being used, the GSpot tool can tell you.

In addition, ffdshow is a popular "playback-only" codec that you could install and use with XviD and DivX video, too.

I've tried divx 6, xvid & ffdshow but no avail it can play the files. But I can't seem to fast forward or Rewind. This might have been intentionally done bcoz I can ff or rew wmv files. Other forum suggest that I get MS remote control to b able to skip it by a couple of seconds. I'll post it if it works with a universal remote.

Have u guys tried xp mce2005? Can u guys recommend a media organizer that is as eye candy as MCE2005?

MCE2005 has some new(?) Video Renderer filter which seems to be somewhat different to XP's VMR7 and VMR9. Who knows what else have they changed :rolleyes:

IC no wonder the videos look alot nicer w/ it !!! So much potential & yet so many restriction!!!
