I stumble across a situation that puzzles me as to why after rebuild that part of the menu in the BOV VTS is not highlighted.
Basically, I copied a BOV VTS (menus) from disc 2 to disc 1 in DRMP 3.1.3. Removed transitions and some menus in this VTS. So in the end there are only 3 menus in the VTS domain. Exported and used Shrink to just shrink the menu vob and leave all others uncompressed - that includes the BOV VTS. After rebuild with RC5.1/HC, I tested with different software players and dvd players, and came out puzzling result when navigating in this BOV VTS.
When I tested the Rebuild output with Powerdvd and Showtime, there are highlights on all 3 menus. But with Windvd and Mark's Player, only the first menu is highlighted, not the last 2, even though I can move the cursor over it and activate it. When tested on dvd players, only one behaves like Windvd except that I do not know which button I selected when navigating b/c there's no highlight. As for the other dvd players, they do not respond when I navigate around the 2nd menu, and of course I can't move to the 3rd menu. The only response I get is to press Root menu.
So I tested both ReMake and Shrink output, there are no highlight problems on all 4 software players in this BOV VTS, esp. the last 2 problem menus.
First, some info about this BOV VTS: NTSC 16x9 menu (pan/scan), 2 button groups: wide and pan/scan, 2 subpicture highlights (0x20,0x21), 3 motion menus each with its own pgc and vobid (1,2,3).
Well, I dig a little deeper to see what's the difference with this VTS from Rebuild, Shrink, Remake, and Original. I'm no expert in VobEdit when looking at the Nav packs. On all 4 outputs, there are definitely 2 Sub-Picture Packs (0x20,0x21) on the left side (LBA header) for each vobid. On the right side, when looking at the "offset to subp. packet for Sub-P Strem1" & Strem2, there are definitely 2 offsets (2147483647 [7fffffff]) in Original, ReMake, and Shrink in almost every NavPack I looked at. As for Rebuild, there's only one offset to Sub-P Strem1. So I thought, could this be the problem?
Then I edit this vob for every NavPack (174 VOBU) to put in the same offset for Sub-P. Strem2. During editing, I found some NavPacks have different weird offsets for Strem1, like -2147481698 [8000079e]. I also notice the "offset to audio packet for AudioStrem1", which makes sense to me. Sometimes starting at the NavPack, this offset refers to the second or third AC3-Audio Pack. I thought it should refers to the first. Could it be that it is for the previous NavPack? If so, how come the very first NavPack (LBA 000000) the offset refers to the second AC3-Audio Pack instead of the first? Does this mean the first audio pack is skipped? Also, I'm curious where is the subpic offset 0x7fffffff refer to?
Anyway, I thought this subpic editing should fix it, but apparently not. What a waste of time. :( There are still no highlights for menu 2 & 3. So I ended up just reauthored this whole vts with Maestro and merged with DRMP. And voila, subpic highlights for menu 2 & 3 for all 4 software players and dvd players. :D
Then I'm curious with the Maestro output, I notice the subpic offsets for both streams 1 & 2 are zeroes which puzzle me as I see on the left window, the first Sub-Picture Pack is at LBA 2. In fact both Sub-Picture Packs (0x20,0x21) are present in the first NavPack of every vobid.
As a last attempt, I tried Rebuilder (CCE 2.70 OPV just to make it finish quickly) with the original disc 2 (extras) to see if it poses the same highlight problem. Indeed, it does not. One thing I find in common with the preprocessed rebuild output though, is that there is only 1 offset (0x7fffffff) for Sub-P Strem1, and in some NavPacks the offsets are in 0x80000***, which I don't know where it refers to now.
In short, I wonder why ReMake and Shrink output have no highlight problems, but only after rebuild. Hope someone could shed some lights in this, and explains to me how this "offset" works. I'd sure like some technical education from experts here. ;)
