What is happening when i select 10 pass or 1 pass? Does it run through the entire movie, then come back again for each pass, or once it is finished with each m2v file is that complete?

And i guess it will make sure the dvd is close to 4.35 gigs? I dont see a setting for dvd size in the setup.

DVD size is a hidden setting as the setting provided offers the best size to avoid any risk of oversizing which means it won't fit on a single DVD so you'll have to do the process all over again. If you insist on changing this, do so at your own risk, just run the help file and search for 'hidden'

The default 2-passes first scans the VOB's to allocate the bitrates depending on what is needed and where to get the best quality and the 2nd pass does the enconding, for every pass above 2 all it means is that is does more passes to allocate and tweak the bitrate each time

More passes equals more time, but some say for very long or very action intensive movies or episodes it can make a difference to the final quality

Assuming you are using CCE SP, as CCE Basic doesn't let you change the number of passes above 2, even the official manual says changing the number of passes to above 3 won't give much more in the way of quality

But, people of here have tested this theory and said there is a difference for high passes, for very long of high action movies like Star Wars or LOTR when the humber of passes has been set to about 6

If you have plenty of time, then give it a try, but above 3 passes does take a very long time, all depending on how powerful your processor is

oh and i think dvdrb defaults to 4.31 or 4.32 just as a safety net. if you do 3+ passes, and set the size to around 4464 mb with rb-opt, it will be perfect most of the time
