...burning all 3 episodes of Naked Gun onto 1 DVD. I figured a 4.5 gig dvd divided by 3 movies gave me a 1500 meg limit for each movie. So, when I try to burn them on a dvd using nero, all 3 movies couldn't fit, and I was over the limit by about 20 megs :angry: . All 3 movies are avi's, encoded using xvid.

Is there any way I can trim some megs off each movie so they can fit?

re-encode the audio to a lower bitrate and possibly use VRB insted of CRB
that might shave off enough

and you could use vorbis in mkv
that would prolly take about 30megs assume he used 128kbps mp3

And next time check how large you DVDs actually are :) Mine hold 4489mb for example, which is quite a bit less than 4.5gb (or even 4500..)

DVD = 4.38GB, not 4.5 or 4.7 like they say.

safest to go to 4.36, just for headroom. and allow for overhead when encoding.

Total runtime of all three movies is about 253 minutes. If the files are currently in AVI you could probably save 20MB by just putting them in MKV without reencoding anything.

Try running it through DVD2one (http://www.dvd2one.com/). Make sure you select Variable Ratio for the Compression Method. It should work out to be 4.36 MB total size.

You could try cutting the credits off to some degree.
I do that as a last resort myself.
