Playback is grainy and washed out

All of a sudden, all of the video playback on my system turned grainy and washed out. I have tried updating my codecs, video player, and video card driver, but this has had no effect. Anyone have an idea on how i can fix this?

what do you use for playback?

take a look for your desktop's color depth.

some videocards do dither DXVA/VMR video in low bitdepth graphic modes..

I do use ffdshow. I have tried windows media player 10 and the divx media player so far, both have the same problem. I know the color depth is 32. What is weird, is it worked yesterday fine, and now somethings messed up.

If you have win-dvd check under set-up video options uncheck use hardware color acceleration. it will effect every software player you use. You could also check to see if you have a similar option for your video card
