View Full Version : Media Player Classic trying to play multiple files

I'm on Windows XP SP2. I've been a happy Media Player Classic user for over a year, but just today have come across a strange problem.

If I open a video in MPC, and then while it is playing, open another one without stopping the first, the player won't stop playing the first video, even while it starts playing the second. Depending on which video renderer I'm using, they will either flicker rapidly between the two or just show the second. However, the audio of both is played together. The player controls only affect the newest-loaded video.

I have always chosen "Use the same player for each media file," but until today have not had this problem. I had not changed any settings or installed any new filters or splitters before this started happening. This happens no matter what kind of file I'm using: AVI, OGM, MKV, even DVD playback.

I've tried deleting all the settings files that MPC creates (in Documents and Settings, also its .ini), even all of its registry entries, to no avail. I did a search of this forum and found nothing similar to my problem.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I've tried doing the same thing in mplayer2.exe (old WMP), the Divx Player, and Zoom Player, and they don't give me this problem.

did you use Overlay Mixer for output?

Are you perhaps using ffdshow?

If so, uncheck "Make DirectShow graph available to graphedit" on it's "Info & debug" page, as MPC does the same thing. If it's done twice, the graph isn't freed when the video is stopped and will happily play on when another video is started... :(

Heh... guess what problem bit me a few months earlier? ;)

I'm glad to help.
