Adding new chapterpoints to authored DVD?

Here I am again with my dumbass questions...

I have an authored DVD, and I was wondering if it's possible to manually add new chapterpoints to one of its titles using pgcedit or some other program? Or do I have to demux it and re-author it with the new chapterpoints? We're talking about adding 10-20 new chapterpoints that span the entire hour video.

Not that I have any problems demuxing it, but if there is a quicker way of just adding new chapterpoints, I would rather go that way :cool:

Unfortunately that didn't work for me. The original video has one chapterpoint, 15 frames before video ends.

So this is what I tried:
-demux the video and audio with pgcdemux from the original vts
-remux with ifoedit, with custom chapterpoints
-use vobblanker to replace the original vts with the new one

this results were..... strange. Then I deleted the last chapterpoint from the original using pgcedit, and tried the routine all over again. The outcome ended up having no chapterpoints whatsoever.

I know I am missing a step or two here, but since I am far from being an expert, I thought I'd consult here...

Your method should work. But use muxman instead of IfoEdit to remux your title. Maybe you will get better results.

BTW, what do you mean by "this results were..... strange."?

If you are still experiencing problems, please post the cell table here. (Use PgcEdit's Info -> PGC menu, and wrap the output around [ CODE ] tags.)

I tried with muxman, same results.

And by strange results... I was kinda hoping I wouldn't have to try to explain as my english ain't so great :(

Anyway, after vobblanker I checked the dvd out with powerdvd, and it starts playing ok, but the information tab shows only 2 chapters (one being the start of the video, and second being the chapterpoint 15 frames before the video ends)

So, as the video started playing, I skipped to the next chapter, and this is where it gets strange. The video went blank, as did the audio. But now I see the chapters that I made, on blank video :P

r0lZ, I was not sure what cell tables you wanted, the original or the "juiced-up". So here is the original:

Hum, seems VobBlanker is unable to add your chapter points in the IFOs.

If the titleset includes only your modified title, you may also try this:
Copy all IFOs to another directory (let's call it copy), with at least the menu VOB of the titleset 6 (VTS_06_0.VOB). Then, replace the whole titleset 6 of the original DVD by the reauthored one. (ie remove the original VTS_06_* files, and rename the reauthored VTS_01_* files as VTS_06_*, and copy them in the original directory.) Then, load the original DVD in PgcEdit, and import the menu from the copy directory. Load the copy in another instance of PgcEdit, and copy/paste the commands and PGC parameters in your reauthored title's PGC. Save and test.
Take care: I am not sure it will work. Verify especially the number of chapters.

There is no need to demux/mux actually. Inserting new chapters can be done in just few clicks with DvdReMake Pro: http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/ht_insert_chapter.php

Im trying to add new chapterpoints, which doesnt have any by default, for reauthored episodic DVD with Muxman. The result is very odd. The muxed video doesnt have chapters but the whole episode ends right after first chapter.

The same remuxed episode will work without the chapter points with no problems, and even has new subtitle stream that works, but when i add the chapterpoints it just messes things up completely.

These infos are from the muxmans remuxed file and not yet replaced/integrated with vobblanker with the original source, since i doubt it would work even if i did that.

Originally i made the chapters in DVDlab but noticed that the format it saves them in isnt correct for muxman so i loaded those in Subtitle Workshop and made custom format and saved the times in frames instead.

Any suggestions? I thought this was pretty straight forward thing since Muxman seemed to support chapters directly. Perhaps im doing something wrong?

Have you tried NeroVision (part of the complete nero package)?
I know you can add as many chapters as you wish, however it does not retain the original chapter settings that came with the movie.

No i havent. I was hoping that some free tool would do the trick. PGCedit/IFOedit/Muxman etc.

Muxman should do the work correctly. The only thing that can be a little bit strange is that it will move the chapter points to the nearest VOBU entry. So, you may have a difference of some frames. If you want to avoid that, you must reencode the video.

For your '1 chapter' problem, are you sure you have loaded the celltimes.txt file in muxman? You should see the number of chapters near the progress bar.

The Celltimes file is empty in the original. The original DVD doesnt have chapters at all. When i load the chapters file, the one i made myself, it will state the number of chapters correctly in the Muxman window, at the bottom of the window. Ive done several runs on this and it always generates the first chapter only and doesnt display rest of the video.

what about AddChapter.
add all your chapters. then cut up your video (where you want your chapter points). then use vobblanker to replace each cell. and don't forget to change the flags.
