In case you haven't noticed yet but wanna chime in abusing those hoards of lawyers and their futile attempts to get rid of great tools like DVD Shrink here's the thread (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=146202).

Or more specifically about 9 posts down. DMCA notice to his web host. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p=1088995&postcount=22
I'm still curious as to who sent the Cease and Desist to his web host EV1?
I wasn't aware you made a German version decrypting free Chetwood. Way cool.

Unless my memory plays trick on me, the notice & takedown system also involves giving the user in question some time to remove the content, and most importantly, letting them know what is happening. So this smells like something else. And as I've previously stated, it's really big loss. I have both tool and guides so what do you need a homepage that doesn't give you anything more?

Yeah, as I've just checked I hadn't mentioned this in my intial posting on this forum advertizing the release but I did so on my page. Anyway no need to credit me cause it was someone from German Doom9 (UncasMS maybe, not sure) who asked dvdshrink about releasing a DeCSS-free english version who actually did so in December 2004 (although unfortunately called 'css-free' instead of 'DeCSS-free').
I completely forgot about this version, I've just pm'ed Areku about it and he might host both german and english DeCSS-free versions on his site yet again. Let's wait and see.
@Doom9
Actually I think this is what happened since the domain is still reachable as opposed to dvddecrypter.com. Mirror sites are nice to have still I'd prefer having one 'official' page clueless newbies can turn to get the latest version and to see guidance. My translated version comes with some links in the program folder to the more interesting sites like DVD Shrink forums and Doom9 and stuff.
Of course if you think you can host 'infringing' versions on Doom9 this could be arranged easily, I just wouldn't want to see this forum disappear...

@chetwood
a bit off topic but indeed dvdshrink related - quite some time ago i mailed shrink author about the possibility of an italian localization for this awesome soft, never got reply
now i see u managed to have a german-localized version... would it be feasible to translate it to italian (or other languages) ?? of course i'll provide the translated stuff by myself
or has the german translation involved aothor's recompiling aide?
would love to provide dvdshrink (even DeCSS-free one) in italian

Yep, I got the resource files only and he compiled several versions till we were finished. So unless you can contact him you won't stand a chance of doing it. Unless of course you get someone to decrypt the dvdshrink.exe for you and then patch all GUI entries with their italian translation. Someone already did this with an inofficial German patch some time ago but I have no way to reach him either so I can't ask him how he's done it.

tnx for ur reply
even a patched version could suffice, though it'd not be the more elegant solution :)
i assume dvdshrink author (btw, which nick / handle does he get to be called after?) is difficult to "engage" on this issue anymore - who knows?
:thanks:

@babaz
The author of DVD Shrink used to frequent these forums with the handle of... well... DVD Shrink. There was also a gentleman who worked rather closely with Shrink's author who went by the handle, Ddlooping. I would imagine Ddlooping could help you if DVD Shrink proves to be too illusive. Both have profiles with Doom9, so you might try getting ahold of them through those.

Just like me ddlooping hasn't heard of him in quite a while. Seems he's gone low profile after all...

well, let's try to contact ddlooping then :D

@Chetwood
That's odd! Those two were pretty much inseperable when DVD Shrink was maturing; so much so that I remember someone accusing them of being the same person on a thread somewhere. Since they both disappeared at about the same time, I assumed they were still working on other things (Nero-related, possibly) together.
It's strange how the seasons change, but I guess change, they must.

I can contact him but nothing would come of it cuz I know he won't work on dvdshrink anymore so it's pointless. Best thing to do is write an italian dvdshrink guide and just offer explanations to the italian users of dvdshrink. I think you could translate for example what AEC options meant, etc.
