Hi
I am interested in getting filter developed that would overlay 2 videos and spatially and temporally align them using landmarks in the background. What I am talking about specifically is sports motion analyses of 2 different athletes performing the same task.
A sample video can be found here

I was thinking maybe if DePan was modified, so instead of comparing the differences between 2 frames of 1 video, you would compare 2 frames from 2 videos to get your motion data and align the videos.

Does anyone have any ideas?

You might be able to get somewhere by using Interleave ... I haven't looked at that plug-in in a while so I wouldn't swear to it, but it is worth a try.

They are most likely using a hardware/software combination to do this. Their camera submits rotation and zoom information along with the video information. The software then use this information to overlay the images. This is used very widely in sports - for doing this and placing virtual graphics on the playing field, etc.

If you have dealt with motion tracking in 3D or compositing, you'll know that automated tracking is almost impossible on "live material". In a controlled environment, where you can put up markers for tracking, it is a bit easier though.
