2 Problems-Sony HC30-transfers

I'm extremely new to this stuff and have some very simple problems with transferring from a Sony HC30.

1. When using the USB link and Sony software to burn a VCD, I get the recorded audio from the tape, but also any enviromental noises from the room I'm transferring it. If I talk during the transfer, the VCD picks up and records this as well.

2. Using Cyberlink Multimedia software and transferring to DVD's, everything works great but I cannot see the time/date stamp like I do on the tape. If I connect the camcorder direct to TV the time is there, but not when burning the DVD.

Also, what software is recommended for editing - nothing complicated, I basically what to edit sections out, titling, etc.

to be honest my level of knowledge as far as dv goes is bordering on non-existant ... although that will change soon, as my brother in law has recently purchased one, and is even more clueless than i am, so i will be the one he turns to for help ... :scared:

i tried searching for a user manual for this model but was unable to find one, so i will move this thread to the DV forum, where hopefully one of the gurus there can help you out.

Hello,

1. LOL :) Do you have a microphone connected to computer somewhere? Try to unplug it. Actually, I don't know if there's an option of additional dubbing in your cam, consult manual.
Just forget about USB cable. Buy FireWire/i.Link/IEEE1394 (these are aliases of the same cable). Just make sure you buy cable with proper plugs :P

2. CaptureFlux -> http://paul.glagla.free.fr/ <- is able to inlay date/time on captured video, it also allows to view stream from camera in full-screen.

Editing Software?... Actually I have no idea :] I just do some cutting/encoding, so VirtualDub -> http://www.virtualdub.org/ <- is enough for me.

1. That was it - the kids had the microphone connected. I am using a Firewire and it works fine.

2. Is there an english version of the software for capturing the date/time stamp ?? Went to the web site but my french is no good.

lol blame the kids....also what program are u using to transfer?? i didnt think the mike would be linked to the transfer process.

Yup, there's an English version of website (there's a UK flag on the left of the main page)

Most of capturing programs will mix any avaliable source if they use more than one interface (i.e. Cam via FireWire & soundcard's input). This is quite useful in some cases.




To prevent mixing just mute soundcard via Wind's Volume Control (Recording, not playback!).
